Help

I had my first prenatal appointment on a Tuesday, 5 days ago. At the time I should have been approaching 8 weeks pregnant but was found to be 6 weeks 2 days with no fetal heart tones.

The diagnosis of miscarriage was confirmed 3 days later on a Friday in the ER.

My quants had been 48,000 at the time of my first appointment Tuesday, then reached 49,500 2 days later on Thursday -but dropped to 46,000 by the time I reached the ER on Friday.

I have no way of knowing how long the baby has been gone since my cycles were all over the place and we questioned the actual gestational age from the very beginning.

I am not bleeding and I have been experiencing mild cramping all weekend. I worry that my body may not identify the miscarriage and that I may not pass the pregnancy on my own. -Can that happen?

I prefer to let Mother Nature take it's course, but the waiting is killing me. -Should I opt for a D&C?

HELP!

That depends on what you feel comfortable with.  I would say give it another week and if nothing happens then schedule the D&C.  Discuss the risks of waiting with you OB doctor.  Since you are cramping maybe your body is starting to sense something is not right.  So sorry to hear about your loss.

I would say to go ahead with a D & C, if you are not sure what caused your M/C. Some women need a D & C and other don't. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. And I know that there are many emotional feelings when it comes to a M/C. You body is telling you something is going on when the numbers are going down. If you are about 6-8 wks, sometimes really depends on the doc they can say that the m/c just happen. Once again sorry to hear about your loss and best of luck to you.

First of all sorry for your loss.  Sometimes, if the baby is a little farther along (more than 6 weeks) your body will not expell the contents on it's own.  Every so often your body will start to, but then not empty everything out and you will need a d&c anyway because you can get an infection otherwise.  I had a missed miscarriage at almost 12 weeks last year.  I found out at an appointment like you no bleeding or anything.  My baby had stopped developing at 7 weeks.  I scheduled the d&c a week out to see if anything would happen on it's own.  I bled a little, after the ultrasound but nothing else.  So, I called them to get me in sooner because I just wanted the whole thing over with so I could try to move on.  Waiting and knowing the baby had died and was still in my body wasn't good for me emotionally.  The d&c was quick, and I had what was like a heavy period for about 2 weeks then my body was back to normal.  Schedule for a week or two out that way you can give your body a chance if you choose.  Please let me know if you have any other questions!
