How long will this take?

At my almost 8 wk ultrasound 5/10 I was told that the baby wasn't going to survive...heart rate was barely 60 bpm and the baby measured only about 5mm....I was devastated, as this is my second miscarriage in a row (we have been TTC for two years since the last miscarriage March 2008).  I think I remember the nurse saying it could take up to a month for my body to pass the baby, but she said probably within a week or two it would happen.  I stopped the progesterone cream I was on immediately as I was told, but it has been almost a week and I still feel the same.  I had very few symptoms to begin with (just tender breast really) but they haven't gone away or lessened...I am just dreading having this experience be drawn out.  At least the first time (blighted ovum) I started spotting and miscarried within two days of the ultrasound....  I am especially tired of catching myself getting my hopes up that maybe the u/s was wrong, maybe baby is totally fine and the nurse just couldn't get a real view of him.

I am going back to the RE in two days...should I request another ultrasound?

You should request another ultrasound to confirm everything so you can see yourself that helped me cope a lot and if the baby has passed away you should go for the d&c I just had one Wednesday and it is painless with a pretty quick recovery depending on your body. I hope all is well and that your baby is okay I am sorry you are going thru this I know it is hard but please try to relax you are in my prayers

Hey

I hope this gives you some insight.  I miscarried at 14 weeks on the 13 April.  The report came back that my son had stopped growing between 10 and 11 weeks.  That meant I carried him for about 3 extra weeks.  I spotted Monday morning and he came out Tuesday night.  I guess it was pretty quick and I just had a sore back no cramping what so ever.  I am still waiting for my period and it has been 34 days since miscarriage.  I guess it does take awhile for you body to first recognise and then for it to get back to normal.  Do what is best for you!!!

I would do the D&C if there is no hearbeat. I am very very sorry. I have lost 3 but my body did not even start bleeding on it's own when I MC. If you have the D&C it also allow you to test the tissue if any cells are still alive. You might get some answers from this. Sending you hugs.

I would definitely request another ultrasound to confirm whether or not the pregnancy is really over.  I completely understand you not wanting to drag this out and would suggest that you ask for a D&C rather than be expected to wait a month or more for things to happen naturally.  An alternative is a pill that you can take to bring the miscarriage on.  Ask the Dr what options are available to you so that you can make the best decision for yourself.
