Is it normal to bleed heavily after a D&C?
I got pregnant at the end of August 2016. I was 36 years old. At my 9 week appointment, although I felt fine and had absolutely no cramping or bleeding, the u/s showed there was no heartbeat. Baby had stopped growing at 7 weeks. I opted to wait and let nature take it's course.  My hormone levels were still quite high but began decreasing very slowly. I was having a missed miscarriage. I did not opt for a D&C at the time because I have had 8 prior c-sections and my uterus is thin. My healthcare provider felt a D&C may not be my best option. I decided to wait it out. Finally, in November, I could wait no more. Things were not progressing and I still had not had any cramping or bleeding. I took cytotech in hopes of triggering the miscarriage. I went through an entire weekend of cramping and contractions and only some very light bleeding. As soon as I stopped the meds, the bleeding stopped as well. The following weekend we tried the meds again but my body did not respond. Ultrasound showed that the baby and placenta were still inside. Finally, at the end of November, I passed the placenta and bled like I was having a light to medium flow period. It was very odd. For the entire month of December I had a yellowish-green foul-smelling snotty discharge. My midwife ran bloodwork to check for infection. Bloodwork was normal, hormone levels were normal. Then at the end of December, my period resumed.  I bled for 2.5 weeks. 14 days later, my period started again.  I thought my body was back on track but no, I bled for 32 days with that 2nd period. 16 days later, it started again. At that point, I decided to see my midwife for a D&C. I had the D&C done March 17, 2017. My period returned 4 weeks later (4-14-17). It is so crazily heavy. I soaked through my pad and clothes twice last night. Is this normal?  I am SO ready for my body to get back to normal. I am ready to put this whole thing behind me. I have been dealing with this for so long. Has anyone ever had an experience similar to mine? Thank you for reading my lengthy post. ❤
