Miscarriages - Please help

Dear Doctor,

I've posted some questions on this site in the past and very thankful for the valuable advice given to me when I was diagnosed with TB in 2006.

Recently I had 2 miscarriages (early pregnancy - 5 weeks and few days). One in November 2008 and one in Feb 2009. What basically is happening is during my 5th week of pregnancy I start bleeding which eventually results into miscarriage. I have given detail symptoms below.

I've been to doctors and they say that unless I had 3 miscarriages they will not do any further tests or diagnosis. I'm not sure if there is anything which I can do or is there anything which can be done right now rather than waiting for 3rd time.

Please please help.

Thank you very much for your time.

Detail Symptoms
===============
1) In the first pregnancy in Nov 2008, I got various pregnancy symptoms and everything was ok till 5th week. Suddenly during end of my 5th week I started bleeding with some lower back pain (not that much heavy). I had the positive pregnancy test at home (at 4 and half week) but the pregnancy test done by doctors was negative and hence doctors done the blood test and found out the HCG level was only 9. In next 2-3 days I continued bleeding and the HCG level dropped out.

2) After my first miscarriage we waited for 3 months (as suggested by doctors). During this time my ms-periods were normal (though less number of days compared to earlier). In Feb 2009 I again got the various pregnancy symptoms and again everything was ok till the end of 5th week of pregnancy. Again the pregnancy test done at home (at 4 and 1/2 week) was positive but the doctor’s pregnancy test was negative. This time I had a severe lower back pain from almost start of the 4th week of my pregnancy. At around end of 5th week I again started some bleeding which eventually gone into very heavy bleeding (bright red) with clotting (few of them was of grape size). The bleeding this time was very heavy as compared to the last time. After bleeding for 2-3 days doctors had done scan and found nothing much and hence they have gone for blood test again. I'm still awaiting the results of blood test (for HCG level).

Do let me know if you require any additional information.

Thanks and Regards

Hi All ,

Thanks for you support.
I have been to doctos and had some tests. Ans now doctor is saying every this is ok with me and my husband. And there might be a chance that from two of my miscarriages , one was,'t misscarriage as HCG level was too low, so it can be a late period. So he asked me abt my cycle lenght and irregularity. I have 32 days cycle and it is not irregular. Only when I got married, in first few months it bacame irregular but then again it became rregular and fine. Now doctor has prescribed me Clomid medicine for ovulation.(As per him this can be the reason). But now this month my period hasn't come, and it's late for 22 days. No symptoms and blood test and urine test are negative. It's almnost 10 days remained for next cycle. I never missed my period like this. I have question. Does this happen to anyone? (never missed the period and tests are negative)
Can you please help?
What should I do now?

Those blood types shouldn't be a problem.. all the OB said was that if the mother has a negative blood type they have injections they can give to help when they are pregnant so they don't miscarry if that is a problem and those tests like Thyroid and that were to help to see if your hormone levels were weird and that.. they dont' generally test to see why you are miscarrying or why you miscarried in general but the tests i was discribing are just basically good pregnancy heath if that makes sense.  If your doctor says they don't want to do that stuff to rule that stuff out.. then i'd tell them u'd like to be referred to another doctor if it means that much to you..

As far as finding a reason for miscarriage i can tell u what i was told > Miscarriages are incrediable common every doctor has a different number but about 1 in every 5 pregnancies ends in a miscarriage.. thats a lot and most likely nothing u did made you miscarry unless of course your doing drugs/alcohol... but on the drug topic if you are taking anything whether prescribed or not u might want to remind them of it to make sure it doesn't conflict with anything.

best you can do is try to make sure your in good health and that your hormones and all that are where they should be and just keep trying..

Hopefully this helps :)

Best of Luck

Thanks for your comments.

The test you mentioned, is it possible to ask for those tests after 2 miscarriages. As when I asked doctors if there is anything which can be done they told me that it has to be atleast 3 miscarriages before they will do any tests. So this is not helping me to understand what could be wrong and what I can do to prevent it next time?

BTW, my blood group is O+ve and my husband is B+ve, would that be an issue?

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad that you posted in our forum I just want you to know that there is not a dr in this forum but we are women who have been in your shoes and can listen and share our experiences..I have suffered 6 losses. All of my pgs I have early pg bleeding and always have cramps and back pain. All you can really do is wait and see what your levels are and then 3 days later have them checked to see if they are rising. If you were to get an u/s it may still be early to see a hb. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Just try to rest and relax and see what your dr says. Try to keep your chin up..Let me know what happens.....

some additional tests they could run (which is what they did for me when i wasn't getting pregnant/ miscarried) was they can do blood work and test your thyroid, what blood type you are if your a negative blood type they have apparently injections they can give u to help not miscarry.. umm but there was a few things that they can do to make sure is all good before you try to conceive again..

I know you've probably heard it a lot but im really sorry about what your going through your in a good place here there are alot of women who have and are going through similar situations..
Good Luck

I am so sorry for your losses. I just went though a m/c in Feb. so I know it is an emotional time. I would ask your dr for some additional testing. My ob/gyn said he would run some extra tests for me because I asked him if he would. There's no harm in asking and many doctors are willing to run some simple tests/blood work. If you go to a specialist, you could maybe get some additional testing as well.
Sorry I can't be much help. I hope you get some answers soon.
