Misscarriage

I am 6weeks pregnant(actually i was).Last night I started to bleed(the blood was visible only when I was wiping )  and to have painful cramps. This morning I went for an abdominal ultrasound and they told me that I m misscarying and most of what I had inside is gone. What is left is a small piece of the sack(9mm) and some blood. The gynecologist gave me Methergin in order to remove everything as soon as possible. My question is why she didn't wait at least for one week to see if I can expel everything by myself especially that I m only bleeding (not heavily ) for one night...and I m also confused about this medicine Methetgin because what I was reading is that it stops the bleeding but in the same time makes your uterus contract...shouldn't this medicine make you bleed in order to remove everything?why stopping? ...I already took 2 pills (every 8 hours) but I m confused about it.
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your replies.Meanwhile I asked another gynecologist and he said the same so I suppose this is the best thing to do.

because of the risk of infection. you dont want to wait to see if your body can expell it.

I'm sorry for your loss the medicine helps your body to contract to get rid of what's ever left of the pregnancy
