No heartbeat on Ultrasound

Hi,

I went for an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and they saw an empty sac, the tech told me that it's too early to see the embryo and to come back in 2 weeks. The report from this U/S stated that the sac measured 3-4 weeks, ( According to LMP I should of been 6 weeks) I went back 2 weeks later and they did an abdominal U/S and they could not see the baby, so she did a vaginal ultrasound and she could see the embryo and no heartbeat. The report stated that the sac is 5 weeks old and the embryo measures .44cm (6wx2d) They told me this does not look good and I need to have blood tests done. What I was wondering is, I was using the period counter on my phone and we actually conceived 5 days after my fertile period ended. Could the dates be wrong? Or am I just clutching at straws here?

So So Sorry Lulu, I had the actual natural miscarriage when I was right on 8 weeks, had the pains on the sat night and passed the sac on the Sunday. Maybe you will be ok to go naturally, The pain wasn't nice for me, but bearable, and then I was very tired the next couple of days after, but I assume you get like that after a D&C too. It's weird, it wasnt till I knew within my heart that I'd lost it, that my body started to miscarry. Let me know how you go, if you need to talk I'm here. x

Wish my story ended better but I too miscarried.  It hasn't officially happened but my ultrasound this afternoon showed no growth in the baby (measuring 6w 5d) and no heartbeat (I should be 8 weeks according to my last LMP.  They are going to get the results of my HCG levels back tomorrow (see what they are doing) and then schedule a D&C.  I'd like to do it naturally but my husband is deploying and we just moved to a new city so I don't know many people.  I don't want to do this on my own with a 2 year old if it takes several weeks. I am hoping before the D&C it will start on its own.

God bless all the miscarried little angels :)

It was a vaginal scan.  My HCG levels monday were 20,000 and the scan was the previous thursday (so the bloodwork was four days after the scan).  The nurse said tomorrow (my follow up u/s) they should see a heartbeat or they will call this a m/c.  At this point I just want to know.  I'm already expecting it not to be good.  Once it happens to you once you just assume the worst. Still trying to be hopeful.....

I'll post an update cause it seems like many people don't and when you are going through this it is helpful to read peoples stories.  Incase someone reads this and didn't see previous post I was supposed to be 7 weeks and went in for an ultrasound and sac, yolk and small embryo was present but no heartbeat.  Also they said the baby was measuring CRL near 6mm (5mm is when a heartbeat should be for sure seen) but I was told those measurements sometimes aren't real accurate and could have been off +/- 4days (according to technician and nurse).

I don't want to get your hopes up lulu, cause thats what I did, but did they do and abdominal ultrasound or vaginal? I have read a lot of stories where they could not find a heartbeat then it all turned out ok, hopefully this is your case. Please keep me informed.

I had a D&C done the first go round and I had bleeding from D&C (bled about 12 days from that) and then two weeks later had a period.  It was after that I got pregnant.  6 weeks exactly from the day of my D&C and found out 8 weeks after D&C.  You'll be super nervous when you get pregnant again but odds are all will be well. Good luck to you!!  Getting pregnant again was the only thing that helped me move past what we lost (and wanted so badly!!).

I am supposed to be around 7 weeks (as of last thurs when I did the u/s) and they said the baby was measuring 6w 3d.  I ovulate late (I know that for sure) but being the baby was measuring this size they said a heartbeat should have been there.  I just did the HCG labwork this morning and just am fearing another miscarriage.  Once you go through this once it's hard to be positive.  This is also EXACTLY how we lost the first one.  So I'm been praying and hoping but preparing for bad news come wednesday.

Lulu, how far are you suppose to be along? I really hope that everything is ok for you, let me know how you go.That is great news that you fell after your first cycle, just a question, did you have a natural miscarriage? or a D&C? Also did you count your bleeding from the miscarriage as your first cycle, or you waited another after the initial bleeding?

I'm in your boat right now too and just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.  I had a vag u/s and measured 6w 3d and no heartbeat and sending me back next week for a follow up ultrasound but were not hopeful.  Said the baby's heartbeat should be seen by now :(

Not looking forward to another miscarriage as I've already had one before we had our son.  Good luck for you with trying again.  After our 1st miscarriage we started trying again after my first cycle.  We got pregnant that month and had a great pregnancy and now have a healthy 2 year old.

Thanks for the response kitkat, unfortunately the miscarriage has happened, HCG levels not rising, cramping and bleeding, and I have already passed the sac. Will keep trying though :)

Dates can be off, especially in those early days where it grows at different rates. Are yoou going to be having another ultrasound sound just to check if anything has changed from that? The first time you only measured 3-4 weeks which is definitely too early to see anything, and then after that you would have only been 6 weeks, which sometimes is till too early to see a heartbeat. It can also depend on the position of the baby. It is possible, that you've had a blighted ovum or missed miscarriage as well though, but that would need to be confirmed by having another ultrasound to see if anything has developed or not. Could be that dates are off slightly and it's just too early to tell.
