Provera

by KJ325, Jun 21, 2008 02:16PM
I had a D&C on June 4th for a missed miscarriage @ 14 weeks. It's been over 2 weeks and I'm still bleeding. I went for a check-up with my dr and now he wants to put me on provera now. He wants me to take it for 3 weeks and then I will get my period. After reading some other posts it seems as though drs would prescribe the provera later rather than earlier. I haven't started taking it yet. Is there any reason to be concerned to take it so early on?

I'm so sorry for your loss. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I had my d&c. This really is the first week that I have started to physically feel better. I've had horrible headaches, cramping and I just now stopped bleeding...How have you been feeling?... Provera is progosterone and after taking it you are suppose to get your period. I have heard of other people taking it if it took them over 6-8 weeks to get their period so that's why I was curious as to why my dr wanted to put me on it right away. I'm suppose to go in for another check up this week so I suppose I will ask him because I haven't started taking it yet.

I had a D&E at 11 weeks on May 29.  I still haven't gotten my first period.  I was put on provera 2pills for 5 days and nothing.  I'm on it again for 10 days.  Next step is the pill for a month and if that doesn't work a d&c.  This has been extremely difficult.  The provera had also given my major pms.

That is really strange that they are putting you on provera while you are still bleeding. Normally they prescribe it to induce your period and sometimes help straighten out your body if you have been getting a period every two weeks.  My dr was going to put me on it when I m/c in Dec last year.  It took until Feb for my levels to go to 0 and after that I was getting a period every two weeks.  Thank goodness my body straightened up before having to take it though and I got pregnant again in May only to m/c that one too.

I did talk with a friend of mine who has had a few m/c too.  She was telling me that her dr put her on provera to help stop bleeding once after m/c.   She had some dysfunctional uterine bleeding and she took it twice a day for 5 days.   That's new to me though.  Good luck and hope this helps.
