Rising HcG after Miscarriage

by pri117, Jun 23, 2008 08:23PM
Herez my story
I am 29 yrs old and had a miscarrige last year. I have regular periods and we have been TTC for the past 2 years. Last month I was on 50mcg Clomid followed by AI (05/31/2008). On 06/13/08, my beta-HcG level was 7. On 06/16/08 it was 11. Looking at these numbers Doctor informed us that we have very little chance of having a healthy pregnancy. I had my regular periods on 06/17/08. I remember passing  a tissue and the flow was normal. Just to make sure that my HcG level has dropped I went in for a blood work on 06/21/08. Surprisingly the HcG level was 109. I went back to for another blood work today and the HcG level was 194 (almost double). They did a vaginal ultrasound and nothing abnormal was found in the uterus or tubes. I am really concerned.  Has anyone had a similar experience before? I dont know what to expect.

To: Hi Dear..
I had similar situations before.. I have had so many bad experiences for a long time.. I am no expert but try be prepared for worse..

Twice I had very slow rising BhCG levels - just like yours. First time it was a bit fast that your & we found out at the end it was an ectopic & it bacme visible in the tube. The 2nd time (last yr) was very slow rising & we couldn't see where the pregnancy was. I was hesitant to remove the tube (the only one left) without seeing things clearly. Apparently if it's an ectopic pregnancy, the preg could be somewhere else other than the F/tube. So I took a drug called Methotrexate - so didn't need surgery at the end.

They say preg hormones should double every 2-3 days.... I think as a guide... when U are due for the period (when U are 4 wks pregnant) U should have around 100 BHCG level... just calculate & see the level U should be...

If the level are slowly rising... the chances are the pregnancy (more likely pregnancy tissue etc.) are still somewhere there...

Hope this give some infor to you...
I wish you all the vest best... Pls always try to hope for good things to happen & never give up hopes.

I am so sorry! This sounds so frustrating and stressfull :(  I have a good friend of mine who went thru a similar situation, today she has a 6yr DS. You never know, there are mysteries in life and I am hoping you end up with a great "mystery" result.

PS: My doc once told me that you wouldn't be able to see a sac until the #s were above 1500.

Good luck, many SSBD your way!!!

Please keep us posted!

To: HI
I to am having trouble with my HCG levels incresaing after a possible miscarriage. My last period was May 4th. I had a week of bleeding and clotting June 16th-20th. My Hcg levels have been as follows:

110- fist draw
115- 48 hours later
364- thursday before 12th
138- June 16th
664-June 33rd
1510-June30th
I had an ultrasound on June 30th but they could not see anything abnormal or extra tissue. Its a big mystery.

To: hello
Thank you all for the feedback.

I had couple of blood tests--
June 23   HcG 194
June 25 HcG 342
June 27  HcG 420
June 30 HcG 464

From june 27 didnt double. They couldn't find sac in the ultra sound and HcG was not doubling.
So doctor performed a D&C on June 30. After D&C, she told that it is ectopic pregnancy. I went with Methotrexate injection on July 1st.

My HcG level was 116 on July 7th.

Take care & Good luck to u all

I had a miscarraige when 5 weeks pregnant and when subsequent HCG levels were checked they were rising slowly (30, 48, 127, 202). I was admited to hospital and told I would most likely be brought to theatre for laparoscopy. Then another Dr on call told me the levels would be monitored and if they continued to rise they would give me methotrexate.  I was very reluctant to accept this as a solution but admittedly I did not know very much about it.  Only because I was hospitalised over a weekend there was a delay in a decision being made and thankfully that worked to my advantage because I started spotting and eventually the levels came back down without any need for intervention or injections.  Sometimes you have to be patient, whilst at the same time ensuring that you are not being put at risk of a rupture.  I was glad that time was taken before the decision on treatment was made because the natural conclusion was best for everyone.
