Second miscarriage in 4 months

by gardenroses, Sep 29, 2008 10:04AM
Hello,  I got pg in june and at 4 1/2 weeks along I lost it. I didn't think to much of it as I know early miscarry happens. Nor did I go to the Dr. since it was so early and there is nothing they can do about it. I figured my body would take care of it. Well now at 5 and 1/2 week pg i'm miscarrying again. I usually don't go to the Dr. till after 6 weeks along. But now i'm thinking something might be wrong with my body or maybe the baby wasn't growing right and it just so happened that they were with in 4 months of each other.  I have a 12 month old baby and only had spotting with him otherwise no trouble.  Any idea's on what to do or what could be wrong would be very  great!

i had 2 Mc's in 5 months myself.  ask your doctor to send you for recurrent pregnancy loss testing.  you might need something simple like progesterone to help keep your hormone levels healthy to hold a term pregnancy.  normally after 2 Mc's insurance will pay to have you see a reproductive specialist to have lots of bloodwork and an HSG test run.

i went and got everything run, nothing turned out to be wrong, but the doc put my on progesterone and baby apsirin and here i am now 19 weeks along with a litle boy.  so i totally beleive in having these tests run and listening to the doctor with what treatments are available.

Unfortunately this is far too common.  I wish it wasn't.  I have had two m/c and two chemical pregnancies in 9 months (I consider them all losses).  I am trying again as in addition to testing the tissue, they have done all kinds of blood work, ultrasound etc etc.  Not a thing wrong with me.    They are chalking it up to bad luck.  Its so frustrating not to have answers.

The starting point is a full regular physical.  Making sure there is no underlying health condition.  Also, I know this is unpleasant, but try to save some of the tissue and request it be tested for chromosonal defect.  From there, progesterone and other tests can be requested.  My Dr. does testing after 2 losses, but I know some don't until 3.  Talk to your OB and see what he can do.  Like leighanne, come next pregnancy I will also be on progesterone and baby asprin.  Not so much because of any problem, but because it can't hurt and may help.  I wish you all the best, and I hope things turn out well for you.

Thank you ladies! I was thinking I may have to be on progesterone.
