Tissue vs. Blood clot

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between passing a blood clot or passing tissue?  When I went for an u/s last Friday to see if I was miscarrying, the tech asked if I was passing blood clots or tissue.  I told her I thought clots but I had no idea what the difference was.  So, does anyone know the difference?

Omg I'm having the same problem as you! I've been bleeding for 3 weeks continuously and been back and forth from the Dr's and hospital. I'm only around 6 weeks pregnant. I'm gonna be honest with you, Dr's have been saying that it sounds like a misscarrige but test's so far have said otherwise. I've had my bloods taken and the hormone (thank god) is getting stronger. Still worried as it's not as high as they would have liked but you may be having the same problem as me. It turns from red to brown, really light and a little heavier now and again.  I'm going to give you advice. DO NOT USE BUSES AND REST AS MUCH AS YOU CAN PLEASE!!! Because when I had finished with my hospital appointment, I had to get a bus for an hour long journey back home and I stared bleeding dark fresh blood. Like a menstrual period. As for the clots v tissue, what I did, (this is gross) get a glass, get the clot, put it in the glass with water and try separate it. If it isn't all just blood and there's some clear/white solid cartridge looking stuff in there, it's tissue. If it's just all blood, it's just a clot. I know because I did this myself out of worry. Unfortunately for me,  there was a little tissue in mine so I'm hoping it's nothing but still, get checked out at the Dr's/hospital/midwife if you can. DON'T GET A BUS from personal experiences. You may or may not be misscarrying same as me. The Dr's told me it could be a number of things such as, implantation, the period hormone breaking through the hgc hormone,(if this happens you tend to bleed for longer), the only way of knowing is to get tests done. Don't just wait either. PUSH FOR IT that's what I did. Just take yourself straight to A&E/ER depending where your from, and get sorted! I hope all goes well for you both I really effing do because I feel your pain and I'm scared out of my witts. :( all the best. <3

Mine was white cartridge tissue looking I already took 2 pregnancy test they’re both negative I think maybe I took them to early. Do you think I’m having a miscarriage? MedHelp Search >
Search Results for I passed a soft but solid matter which was in the shape of a fetus and seem to have vein running through. I have put it in water and it is still solid so not a blood clot.it is greyish in colour and slightly see through. It had a little blood in it but I have not come on. Could this be a fetus? I have had no sack come out or bleeding, only some around the questionable matter. I am really puzzled!

i am 6 wks and 2 days ago i started bleeding, the second day i had cramps and last night i passed a quarter size tissue, i put it in water and this morning it turned white, i had a blood test yesterday and it was 935, i have to take another tomorrow but i am going to see a midwife so she can do it and examine me as well and will give me herbs to pass it if its a miscarriage....since my gyn dr wont examine me or even offer anything to raise my progestron level, she didnt even call me in to do an ultrasound so i dont want to waste time with her
this morning i only had lite bleeding and no more tissues or cramps....do you think i miscarried with that tissue? is that enough or was that just a lining of my utherus??

I’m 5wks pregnant and just before i saw my gp i started bleeding. He said it was a threatened miscarriage and got my blood tested. He told me today that my pregnancy hormone was low at 17. Can the pregnancy continue if it’s that low and if i haven’t passed any tissue and clots are extremely small.

I've been on my period for 2 weeks as of yesterday. Prior to that I was 3 weeks late on getting my period and had breast tenderness since I missed my period.. Last night however, as I went to take out my tampon, as I placed it on the tissue, a long pinkish "thing" (length of my pinky) came out with the tampon with a red dot at the tip and little horizontal lines on the item which I thought was a blood clot.. Thought of whether or not this was a fetus, I took a clean part of the tissue to touch the item and it didn't break.. Didn't know what to think I just flushed this down the toilet. Could this have been Fetal Tissue?

I just want to say thank you ladies for your questions, comments, help, 2 days ago i went to see the GP as i was bleeding extremely heavy with lots of clots that id never seen in a normal period before, had a pregnancy test done was negative went to tell GP when nurse came rushn in and said its positive, GP said possibilitiy havn miscarriage or ectopic preg, had HCG test done, told it was low have another nxt week to see when normal again, found this site yesterday as was askd by GP if i noticed if passed any tissue said I dont think I would know the difference, through this site and the help from u ladies I was able to tell the difference and what to look out for and sadly to say I miscarried yesterday, I took my fetus back to the GP yesterday, he confirmed what fell out, this may sound crazy but he asked if he could send it off to lab to see if its intact I said Id rather keep it which i have at the moment, my partner and i arnt to sure what to do with it, i know i cant keep it forever i was thinking of cremating my baby( even tho its a fetus its still my baby) at home of course my own way, in my loss I forgot my partner for awhile there and how he feels but we both are doing okay

I had something similar to airbair, only is sank, and I thought nothing of it until I flushed. Would it have sunk like a rock had it been merely a clot?

I think it's a good idea to at least take a digital picture if there is any abnormal blood clot...

I miscarried at three weeks. I had horrible cramps the night i got my period. then i had my period for one full day, normally. the second full day i had awful cramps again in the morning and a full day of normal period. The next day i passed what i thought was a clot. it was larger than normal (i typically clot) and so i pulled it out of the toilet. it consisted of a red blob looking like a piece of liver, a little bit bigger than a nickel, and attached was a white vein type of tissue that was about and inch long. the entire emission together was about an inch and a half. i tried to pull it apart, like when the clots just kind of separate, but this did not come apart. it was very tough and was definitely some kind of tissue. i have an instinctual feeling, i just know that i was pregnant. there is no doubt in my mind. i actually had the first feelings of morning sickness the days upto this event, and was repulsed by foods that i typically love. i gained 7 pounds over the course of three weeks with absolutely no change in my diet or daily exercise. my breasts were extremely large, and my breasts are normally small. i don't even realize the implications of this. i took two pregnancy tests before the tissue passed and both were negative. i don't need medical advice to tell me something that i just know. i just know. that is good enough for me.

That water thing actually works. I had a miscarriage last night and passed clots and tissue. They put it in fluid and only the tissue was left. You can definitely tell the difference. Clots just looks like very dark red and thick blobs of blood. They don't stay clotted if you were to seperate with the toilet paper, but it is a pretty thick area of blood. Tissue is pink or white or gray in color. I passed quite a bit of tissue and you know it when you see it. I had been asked by my doctor a few days before if I had passed any tissue or clots and I had no clue because I didn't know what they looked like, but after I saw them I knew that you would know if you see them. If you don't feel like you have passed any, then you probably haven't.

when I was pregnant I was told by a nurse to ... ok this sounds gross...  to take it out of the toilet and putting it in a cup of warm water, if it disappears it is a clot, if it stays there it is tissue, I am not sure if it actually works, I never had to do it, but I hope it helps

I was 7 weeks yesterday.  I've been going through blood test for hcg levels for 2 weeks now.  It went down, then went back up.  That's when they did the u/s and saw the sac but couldn't tell if there was a baby in it.  I go Thurs. for another hcg level check.  I'm sure if it goes up or stays the same they will do another u/s.  I've been bleeding since this past Tues, but now it is slowing down.  I've had no cramps, and if I was looking for grayish material, I haven't had any.  It's all been clots a quarter size or less.  So, it's just a waiting game for me.  HOpe everything works out for you!

your clear tissue could have possibly been leftover semen from your previous nights activities.

I'm not sure...that was kind of my question that I post this morning.  I'm 7 wks and go for an u/s today to see if my baby has grown and if we have a hb.  This past weekend when I went to the bathroom I had this brownish-like discharge when I would wipe.  It wasn't there each and everytime I went to the bathroom.  And last night my husband and I had sex...this morning I go to the bathroom and there is this clear small-like tissue thing in the toliet.  I'm not sure what it was but it's scarying me.  I was your u/s?  How far long are you?
