blighted ovum?

I went to the Dr. for my first appointment two days ago.  They did an us, but could not find the baby.  They said i measured about 9 weeks, and I'm 10weeks 3 days.......I went to a second ultrasound, same day, and they found the yolk sac, and nothing else......I'm curious if there is a possibility for misdiagnoses, and if I should wait to do a d & c?
This will be my fourth baby, I've never had a miscarriage  before, and am still not showing signs of a miscarriage.

I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum on 8/14. By my calculations I was 7w5d, doctor saw the sac but no fetus. A week later I went back for another ultrasound which would put me at 8w5d and the doctor found the baby with a heartbeat measuring at 7w4d. Not sure why it's measuring a week behind but I have another ultrasound on 9/4 so I'm praying and hoping there is still a baby with a beating heart. I would wait another week or so to have one more ultrasound before you are sure.

Hi there, I was preg with my 3rd child, no prev miscarriage, we were at 8 weeks, I was spotting very very lightly brown and had an ultrasound, my hcg levels were doubling for the most part, I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum, they saw a good size sac, no yolk sac and no fetal pole, they said it was a threatned miscarriage, they rechecked my levels 2 days later and they had gone up again, that same day we went bk to the ER cos we thought we were miscarriaging and we were, so unfortuanely it does happen, I am hoping that things go well, it does get easier but it can be disheartning, remember you can keep trying and thats always fun!

get your HCG levels checked, and then re-checked a few days later.  Also, wait another wek and ask for another ultrasound.  Sometimes it can take longer to find the baby.  I have heard that if you have a tilted usterus it can take longer to see the baby.  good luck!

there is a possibility of misdiagnosis but if you are measuring 9 weeks and there is no baby, then that is not a good sign.  that does sound like a blighted ovum.  they should start checking your hcg levels every 2 days because if it is a blighted ovum, usually your hcg levels start dropping around 8-10 weeks.  I am sorry if this is the case.  I had a blighted ovum with my 2nd MC.

Yes there is always the possibility of a misdiagnose....I hope everything turns out to be ok...before you decide to go in for a D&C, you need to have a second opinon, some blood work and tests that show your ARE 100% sure there is no possibility for a healthy pregnancy....not always you need D&C, you can also m/c naturaly...

I hope for the best...I'll will also keep you in my prayers!
