'heart shaped' uterus

I just had a MC on monday night.  When I arrived at the hospital I will in the middle of it and then had a bunch of test run and they found out that I have a bicornuate uterus...I was 5weeks and 5 days preg. when I MC it was not planned but I have been very emotional and now wanting a child.  My doctor has told me the chance of being able to carry a child to full term is slimmer and that MC may happen often with me...I am freaked out and was wondering if anyone know of anyone who had a "heart shaped" uterus and has giving birth to a healthy child.  I don't know how MC I could go through it is so hard...

congrats i too have bicornuate uterus and i was 12 weeks preg but all of a sudden doctor said there is no heart beat i really felt very bad and loosing my hopes i has aborted in normal way with medicines ,it was on my right side .now i am more scared whether i can conceive again and carry out till full term or no plz do help me in suggesting me whether i can do it or no

I had a miscarage. Then found out I also have a bicornuate uterus. I had a septum dividing it also. A fertility doc operated and remove the septum. I got pregnant a second time miscarage ocured again. Got pregnant a third time with very close observation by utrasound every few weeks until the first trimester was over. Everything was great. I gave birth by c-cection on March 12,2007 to a beautiful healthy baby girl. Its possible,  I'm a firm beleiver in everything happen for a reason. Good luck!

I have a unicornate uterus (only have of the "heart"), so it's only half the size of a normal uterus.  I have had many m/c, but I also have a wonderful and now healthy 2.5 year old son and a 10 month old son.  They were both born at 34 weeks and had their share of complications in the NICU, but are now both developmentally and physically where they should be and beyond.  

I friend that delivered the day after I delivered my youngest...pushed and pushed and pushed during her delivery only to be rushed into emergency c/s where they discovered her bicornate uterus.  She was full term and has never had any miscarriages.  

A lot of times with uterine anomalies, you will have to fight harder to get a baby here safely and often times that will require meds, bedrest, and c/s...but it's all worth it in the end.

i have a heart shaped uterus and i had a miscarage. about a  month later i got prego with my son. he is now 8 months old. the pregnancy was difficult and  i had contractions the whole time after 20 some weeks. it sucked but then around 34 weeks he was measureing too small and then i got put on bed rest and a week later went into labor and they told me that labor and a vaginal deliverey would be very difficult and he was too small to endure the deliverey so they recomended a c-section. so we did that. and he was born 4.8  and 16 inches long and they said he was completely on the right side of me which explained why i could never lay on my left side. anywho  long story short  he is fine and healthy just a peanut in the fourth %ile

maybe they label it depending on how severe it is and how far the septum goes down. i was told that mine almost splits my uterus in half.

Well, I learn something new every day. Mine is arcuate, and my doc referred to it as "heart shaped". Maybe he was just trying to explain it in a way that I would understand.

Every doc. will have a different point of view of those things.
My U tilts the wrong way and I was told by one doc. that I would have a hard time getting prego.....NOT true!!
We had a honeymoon baby...LOL :)

I too have a heart shaped uterus also called a bicornuate uterus. I had one m/s when i was 9-10 wks along i went to have an u/s and they said the baby stopped growing at 7 wks and there was no heart beat. Anyway i got pregnant about two months after my m/s which i had to have a d&c for and i did have some problems during that pregnancy but i did carry it to full term and my son is a healthy happy 3 year old. I am now pregnant again i am 11 weeks and so far everything is ok i have had some spotting and a lot of cramping on my left side which is where the baby is the baby is in the left horn of my uterus and all the pain i have been having is because of my uterus strtching. my dr said the the m/s rate isn't more with woman with heart shaped uteruses it just puts them at a higher risk for preterm labor and having the baby in breech position. my son was also breech and i had to have a c-section with him and i also went into preterm labor about 3 times but they were always able to stop it with terbutiline. i hope all goes well and just so you know the first dr told my i would never be able to have children then i saw a specialist and he is the one who told me all the other things that i told you about. and obviously i can have children. good luck and god bless

Heart shaped usually refers to an arcuate uterus. Were you told it was arcuate or bicornuate? BTW, there have been many women on here who have carried to term with a bicornuate uterus.

My fertility doc tells me that a heart-shaped uterus might be more common than we know, and we only find out the person has one if she has a problem.  He explained it thusly:  when they want to research the risk of miscarriage related to heart-shaped uteruses, they generally start out with a database of women who have had miscarriages, because there is no database of women who have heart-shaped uteruses.  But starting out with a database of women who have had a m/c and pick out of this group the ones with heart-shaped uteruses and say the m/c was "because" of the shape of the uterus is not very good science.  He says it is unknown how common the phenomenon is, and how many women go through normal pregnancies and deliveries every day and never know they have a heart-shaped uterus.  This is a specialist in IVF, whose success rides on how many women are able to have babies from his clinic, so I trust what he says.  Two miscarriages is (unfortunately!) common for women, whether they have a usual-shaped uterus or not.  So I wouldn't sweat it too hard.  The uterus expands, and unless there is a septum dividing the uterus in half or baby is tucked way, way up into a tight little corner of the horn, it should not be affected.  Good luck!!!!!
