I think Spyctre's definition of a chemical pregnancy is more accurate. To Petite Wonder - apparently HCG is only released by the body once implantation has started so then it would only show on a HPT or bloods once the blastocyst had begun the implantation process. Not every woman's resting HCG is at 0 - some woman always have a small amount of HCG in their blood even when they are not pregnant. This is why a pregnancy is not confirmed till HCG levels are over 5
A chemical pregnancy is just another term for very early miscarriage that's been confirmed by HPT or bloods. A standard miscarriage is when you are further along and something has been detected by ultrasound.
My understanding of a chemical pregnancy is a situation where conception has taken place but the blastocyst (or whatever it is called) does not implant. You can still have low lvls of HCG in your blood system but when implantation doesnt occur, they drop and you get your period in the end.
I think my last cycle before this pregnancy was a chemical pregnancy. I really cant confirm it because I only ever tested negative.. but my cycle was 37 days long and I spotting for 5 days before turning into my period. It may not have been Ill never know but it was definitely an odd cycle for someone who is normally regular
Chemical pregnancies are when you test very early, very often before AF is due, and get a BFP only to get your period on time or a few days later. It's termed "chemical" because the pregnancy is so early that you can't tell your pregnant except by a positive blood or urine test. It would be too early to "see" anything.
What is a chemical pregnancy?? I dont take any medication regularly, dont drink or do illegal drugs of any type...though im sure they wouldnt result in a false positive...I went to the OBGYN today and i have to go back on weds to check the levels differences in my blood...and wont have any results until thurday which seems like an eternity away when your in a situation like this...
It is possible that you have had a chemical pregnancy (which can result in a positive result and a late but heavy period). It is also possible that you have had an early miscarriage. There is a small chance that the pregnancy is viable as some women do bleed but the bleeding and cramping together are not ideal.
You can wait a few days until the bleeding stops and test again (which may be unreliable) or you can go to the OB and get a more formal blood test there.
Either way I am sorry that you are going through this and wish you much luck moving forward.
well if u think u and ur partner r ready emotionally physically and financially for a third person share this then u shud definitely do it asap. and i agree with the previous user, u might b having a miscarriage but as long as its an early one no D&C is required most of the time but some women have something called " threatened abortion" heavy bleeding and so but their pregnancies carry on full term and end up having a healthy perfect baby..in both cases u need to go to d dr's office as soon as u can to verify the situation ..good luck! and SSBD ;)
it is possible. I had a miscarriage last year and spotted for 11 weeks straight until finally saw bright red blood and lost the baby. Some women have implantation bleeding but normally that would be pinkish or a little brown and spotty for only a day or two. Some women experience miscarriages and don't even know it. I forgot the term for it, but some women will become pregnant, and right away lost the baby. If you see blood, there is a big possiblity that you are miscarrying, especially since it is followed by cramps. For future, don't wait to go see the doctor. Go to the emergency room and demand your beta test levels as well as an ultrasound. Hope everything turns out ok. And, you are still young. If you were able to get pregnant this time, it will happen again, so dont' worry. There are many ways to keep track of ovulation and try for another one. I know many 39 and 40 years old women who are currently trying. Yes, its a bit more difficult, but successful pregnancies do occur. Good luck. Hope you feel better.
