no heartbeat at 6 weeks but one following scan?

I was wondering if anyone has ever gone in for a vaginal ultrasound at 6 weeks 3 days and had everything look good and be in the right place but no heartbeat.  My doctor scheduled me for an ultrasound this week and said if there is no heartbeat they are going to call it a miscarriage.  No one seems to be able to tell either way and my doctor basically felt it was a 50/50 thing.  This week has been tough and we've miscarried before so we are hoping for a better outcome.  With my son we heard the heartbeat at 6 weeks so I know that is when it usually shows up.

Thanks to anyone who takes time to comment or share their stories.

With my first child we couldn't hear the heart beat at this age either.  The doctor told me the same thing.  I came in a week latter they saw the heart beat but couldn't hear it and that was a vaginal scan.  Anyways she is 9 years old now everything was fine.  Good luck.

I had it happen with my first pregnancy and it was worse, so I understand what you mean.  My second pregnancy was healthy and I delivered a happy and healthy little boy in Feb 2010.  I got pregnant 6 weeks after my D&C and was grateful because I wanted a baby so badly and we'd tried for two years only to miscarry the first.  It was awful.

This go round it is also hard but I do know and appreciate my 2 year old.  I hope it happens quickly for you if you are wanting that right now.  It was scary when we did finally get pregnant again and I didn't tell anyone (even my sisters) till my 12th week with a good heartbeat heard.  I just didn't want all my family to go through it again too.

God bless and take care!!  And PS my name is also Rachel :)

I am so sorry for ur loss.

I recently had a miscarriage in Jan 2012 & I only found out on my 12 wek scan - Silent Miscarriage and also know as a Missed Miscarriage. I couldn't believe it & was deeply shocked and upset.

It still hurts and I have bad days, miscarriage is awful at anytime, but it's awful to have this on ur 1st pregancy because it takes away the joy of every being pregant. If you have children, then at least you know you have done it once, but when you have this on ur 1st pregancy it's horrible and am scared .... but whatever will be will be. Fate will decide if am to be a mum not me.

I know and feel ur pain... am so sorry.

We are all here for you, any questions just ask

Rachel

I'm so sorry. I was really hoping you were one of the lucky ones. Your story is so similar to mine. I was meant to be 10 weeks, baby on measured about 6 with no heartbeat. I had to go through 3 weeks of getting weekly scans done to check changes all the while waiting to miscarry naturally. After those 3 weeks I was told to go home and wait 3 waits to miscarry and if it didn't happen then I'll get a d&C. I got my d&c done on march 22nd this year, and wished I'd had it done from the start. I was upset before and after that it was all coming to an end, but I also relieved for that fact too. It's much less physically painful than a natural miscarriage, and the bleeding is much less too - and you don't have to see yourself passing the sac etc. If it were to happen again, I'd definitely go with the d&c from the start.

If you need anything, don't hesitate to message me, because I know some of what you may be feeling, and know it's not easy. So I'm here if you need to talk. May your angel baby rest in peace with my 2, and all the other ladies here and soon, one day, we'll get our rainbow baby.

I wish my story ended like others I had read.  Unfortunately this afternoon we went in for another scan (one week after the first where there was no heartbeat) and the baby had not grown and heartbeat was still not there (I'm not 8 weeks and baby is measuring 6w5d).  The doctor officially called it a m/c since there has been no change and are waiting for my HCG levels to come back tomorrow before we schedule the D&C.  I hope if you are reading this and going through this that you have better luck.

God bless all the miscarried little Angels :)

Best of luck, and let me know how you get I on. I'm hoping it's just too early for you and you'll see a heartbeat now.

Thanks Kitkat.  I'm going in 3 hours from now and just ready to know.  My HCG levels look good but they said that doesn't always mean viable at this point (we only know they are 20,000 as of 7w 5d).  I did more this morning to see if they were rising.  With my first pregnancy (m/c) I had an ultrasound at 6w4d and saw the heartbeat.  The next week it was gone :(  Was a definite miscarriage as once it starts and stops its over.  But with this one we just had a scan at 6w 3d (supposed to be 7 weeks) and they saw the ges sac, embryo and yolk sac but no heartbeat.  I'm praying for a little miracle but know what this usually means.......

6 weeks can still be pretty early to see anything. The heart doesn't usually start beating till 6/7 weeks so sometimes it can't be detected till later. It could also be that you're not as far along as you think. This sounds pretty normal for a scan at 6 weeks.

I had this issue - was meant to be 10 weeks, and when I had a scan there was no heartbeat and baby was measuring 6 weeks. I had to go through 3 more weeks of weekly scans while waiting to miscarry, and finally 6 weeks after that first ultrasound I had a d&c. I know the waiting is hard, just got to try keep busy somehow.
