pregnancy test after miscarriage? please help.

I had a miscarriage on the 22 of august at nine weeks five days, it was my first pregnancy and me and my partner are already trying again. The bleeding from the miscarriage stopped on the 1st I wanna know when I should take a pregnancy test. If I don't get a period, I was thinking like the 8th or 9th of next month. But is it still possible to get a positive result from the miscarriage then? Because it would crush me if I thought I was pregnant again and I wasn't.

Well, whether or not to get bloodwork done is really up to you.  Either that, or prevent pregnancy until your next period.  It is not problematic in terms of the pregnancy to get pregnant right away without a period (or bloodwork confirming your levels are at 0), but if it is going to cause stress worrying about whether or not this is a new pregnancy or still elevated hcg levels from your last one, then it's worth it.  It depends on how you think you would handle it.  It does help avoid confusion, and that way, should you fall pregnant again right away, you can properly enjoy and celebrate, know what I mean?  But your decision.

Whatever you choose, I wish you all the best.

Oh and I was awake and didn't get a needle, it was done like a pap smear.

There are other doctors to go to but from what he told me he wasn't concerned and didn't think he needed to see me until I fall pregnant again. So you think I should get more blood work done, like this week? (I'm just attached to my doctor. Lol) but if it will avoid confusion I wanna do it.

Yeah, she used forceps to pull the clots out and used a plastic duck bill to open up the vagina. I was bleeding alot and she was pulling out huge clots. And it lasted about 5-10 minutes. And after that the bleeding was very faint.

Absolutely they should have told you if they were doing a D&C.  And they wouldn't do that if there was any possibility of a healthy pregnancy as a D&C first dialates your cervix, then essentially scrapes it to ensure there are no products of conception left.  Most times it is done under general anesthetic in a hospital, although I do know a few women who had it done in their OB's office with just local anesthetic.  But no, they would have informed you and there would have been instructions afterward to follow.

I'm a little surprised that your Dr. didn't order regular bloodwork to follow your hcg levels down to 0.  I'm also a little surprised the er Dr. chose to remove blood clots as usually most Dr.'s prefer to allow them to bleed out themselves.  May I ask how she did this?

Your situation is unusual.  Is there not an on call Dr. or a walk in clinic you could see just as a follow up?  If for no other reason to put your mind at ease.

I lost the baby naturally. But, maybe not, I'm not sure because before I had the ultrasound confirming the miscarriage. The emergency room doctor said she thought it could be a blood clot next to the baby, so she wanted to remove any blood clots from the cervix. And she did. But they wouldn't have done a D&C without telling me that's what it was right? Because that's  when they were still leading me to believe that the baby could be okay. It just is a bit suckful because my doctor is away for a month, so I have to wait a month to see him. But I guess that might be for the best?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, you miscarried the end of August and have not yet had a period?  Yes, it would be possible to still get a positive pregnancy test from the last pregnancy for a few more weeks.  One of the things you can do now is ask your Dr. to run a beta/hcg test.  If your levels are back to 0, and you later on received a positive test, then you would know for certain it was a new pregnancy.  You could also try a very sensitive test (I like First Response) now and see if it is still positive.  It's much better and more thorough to do the bloodwork though, and that is what I would do in your shoes.  Also, did you have the loss naturally or did you choose a D&C?  If you opted for a D&C, chances are your levels are already back at 0.

I conceived my little boy immediately following a loss with no period in between.  It did create a bit of confusion for me as they only way I could know for certain it was a new pregnancy was 2 blood tests done a few days apart.

All the best to you.
