Outburst

In the last 6 months my 9 year old boy has had 3 outburst where he seems to change into another person.  I can see it in his eyes.  These are not just getting mad issues.  You can't reason with him.  He is angry.  Sometimes he threatens to hurt his sister.  Eventually he will snap out of it and become himself again.  My wife is scared that as he grows she will not be able to controll him.  When he was younger the attacks or tantrums where more frequent.    The ones over the last 6 months seem to happen when he is extremely tired.   He will have a break from school and then go back where he has to get up early.  By the end of the week he is tired and that seems to be when the problem occurs.  We try to get him in bed by 830 each night. He has other issues that are more minor.  Currently, he needs new gym shoes but he says they all bother him (don't feel right). When we try them on he gets angry because the shoes irrate him.  He does make good grades and has friends.  Most of the time he is good.  The tantrums scare us.  Maybe he is bipolar.  Help.
