Focal area of hyperintensity on MRI suggestive of MS??

by Ree4tu, Jan 03, 2009 11:24AM
My MRI which was performed in Oct. 07, indicated a focal area of hypertensity in the cord at T8 level probably a prominent spinal canal and needed further follow-up.  I had another MRI 6 mths later and nothing changed in the MRI, however I have muscle twitches and stiffness in my legs, arms, and neck.  There are days which are difficult to walk or do anything because of the muscle stiffness.  I also have nerve pain in my arms, hands, fingers and toes.  The stiffness is progressively worsening.  I also have nausea, constipation, problems sleeping, and heart palpitations. Should I be concerned about this focal area of hyperintensity and MS?  I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but concerned that this is incorrect.

Thank you,
Ree4tu

Very few diagnoses cause T2 hyperintensities (white spots) in the spinal cord.

The question is whether it is a one time event, called transverse myelitis or whether it has a chance of happening again somewhere else in the Central Nervous System (CNS), which would generally be called Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

This needs to be evaluated by a neurologist, who actually needs to see the MRIs (there should be Brain, Cervical and Thoracic Spine).
