3 weeks since solumedrol, still having symptoms.

So I had my last solumedrol treatment (1 gram per day IV for 2 days) on 11/26 and I'm still having symptoms. Is that normal? I had much better results the last time I had the IV therapy - the symptoms were practically gone within a week of starting the therapy. I've tried to call the Nurse Practitioner and tell her what's going on, but I can't get her to call me back. How long does it typically take to get relief?

The only thing I can say is that you're not alone.  I had three days of IV steroids at the end of September/beginning of October 08 and I'm getting worse. The steroid helped with my initial numbness of limbs but my muscle/spascity started about a week after and it's getting.  Pain so bad that sometimes I wonder why I wake up.

Try calling your doctor directly if the NP isn't responding to you.  I wish the best of luck.

Hi
I had a 5 day course of steroids a little over a month ago just after being dx. My s/s which were numbness, tingling and burning on the right and difficulty using my left side, were just about all gone by about my third dose. The only thing left after I was done was burning in my right foot and ankle. The burning gradually moved up to just above my knee and hasn't changed.  I keep hoping that it will improve but am beginning to think it will always be with me.  A constant reminder that I actually have this disease.

We all know that ms is different for everyone but it seems that the steroids should have made a huge difference for you before now.  I would talk to the md and see if maybe a longer tx is possible.

Good luck, I wish you the best and hope you get some relief soon...

I haven't had this treatment so I can't answer your question with any experience.

Julie's answer was a good one, I would call the dr and explain how you're feeling.

Good luck, and I hope things get better with you.

It is really discouraging to hear that the symptoms are back.  I wonder if 2 days on the IV S-M was not a long enough course of treatment for you.  It was my understanding that the doctors usually do a minimum treatment is 3 days and wonder why your doc did only 2.  I know that my symptoms started coming back too in a short time and they put me on an oral taper dose of steroids to get me back on track.  Like me, you may be having a rebound effect.  At this point, if the NP is not responding, then try to get the doctor on the phone.  I will bet that as soon as you start asking for the doctor, then the nurse will get back with you.

Hope this helps.

Julie.
