A different hip flexor issue???

Hi, I've seen a new physical therapist, and then saw the boss-lady of the PT facility, and have been told that my hip flexors are extremely tight; especially on the right   They are so tight that they are pulling my pelvic girdle out of whack (not helped by my hypermobile right SI joint), and causing an abnormal curve in my lumbar spine.

I asked if all those tight muscles in there could have anything to do with the trouble I have with constipation, despite a high fiber/water/fresh veggies and fruit diet, and was told that it definitely could.  The boss-lady went on to explain that they could lead to sexual dysfunction; with muscles that tight, it wouild be very difficult to achieve the release of orgasm.

I've been offered the opportunity to see their pelvic/bowel specialist physical therapist.

The attempts at loosening up my tight illiopsoas muscles and whatever others has been very painful, and the pain seems to rebound.

Has anyone had any success with physical therapy to loosen up extremely tight hip flexors?  Hamstrings?

Could this tightness be somehow related to possible MS/Sjogren's/ whatever's going on with me?

???

I was told the same that youmust have had this problems yrs when in fact i've only had it 2 yrs and it has gotten worse up untill 2 yrs ago i was fit and active jogging 5 miles on my day off with my dogs woring 30 to 40 hrs a week as a carer physical job! so no i didnt have this yrs its only since like you i have had neuro problems, but they do say keep it up, but i tried intense PT,hydro theapry (awful) osteopatch, chiropractor, acupuncher and it is still as bad as ever but i think you have to try.

Do let her know it is causing you this much pain so she is aware of it,as she might be pushing you too much and thats not worth it try and work together on it and let her know how its effecting you.

OK, I'll hang in there with the PT; the last time it was so bad, the muscle relaxant and Lyrica did help, along with the ice.  I can make it through a LOT if it helps in the long run!

PT is wonderful and can usually help, but it sometimes gets worse before it get better. Be patient (if you can!). It took awhile for the muscles to get that tight, so it will take time for them to relax. Hang in there, friend!

Kathy,
I have some issues with my right hip and have had them for longer than a year.  Even the direction of the bone structure feels different to me, but it isn't painful like you've described, thankfully!  I sure hope the PT folks can be of significant help to you.

as always,
Laura

:o)

I'm curious if anyone else has tried physical therapy and altenative therapies with good results.  The boss-lady said they probably could have helped me if I would have come to them when I was 20 (heck, I'm 46; I thought of telling her that she was probably still in high school then).  She did seem willing to keep trying; I just am curious if it is worth the pain.

I asked her where you draw the line between extreme muscle tone and spasticity, and she said that you see spasticity in cerebral palsy and disorders like that.  I mentioned that it was seen in MS, also.

She is of the opinion that my muscle tightness is from long-term pain causing my muscles to try and "guard" me from the pain.

The only problem with that is that I was doing great with water aerobics and stuff until about a year before my sudden neurological symptoms struck.  My calves started cramping, and then this intense pain in my abdomen, and my pelvis rotating more often as the muscles pulled tighter and tighter, despite physical therapy.

Sigh, wouldn't it be nice if we could get some answers, or at least some relief?

Hi kathy

I get this on my right side i did post but nobody answered my post boo hoo lol

My right hip is so tight it is has twistered my pelvis right out and i get nerve pain from my hip and down to my ankle though i get pain all down that side and on the ribs its bad tonight.

i went to aPT and a osetopath she tried acupuncher but anything they did would unright itself within a few weeks, i know cant put any pressure on that side as it is so weak and my left side takes it all.

i think it could be related for sure, alot of people with MS suffer from hip problems i think mine is permanant spasms in the hip muscle.
