Amalgam fillings

Has anyone had amalgam fillings removed?

I had several (3?) removed a few years back, as they were almost as old as the head they were in.  I don't remember any precautions specifically...   Since I'm in limbo I'm wondering if this is something I should check in to?  I don't want to do the usual web search, given the comments above about the bogus info out there.  If anyone can point me to some valid info that would be great.
Thanks!

I am very appreciative of the commentary on this subject. This is yet another topic that has been raised with me by several people. I have a mouth full of old amalgam, as testament to the naughty child I was who disobeyed my parent's instructions.

I had contemplated removal and replacement of amalgam but then decided against it.  You good people have given me great comfort about my decision.

Blessings
Alex

No I do not think that the fillings are associated or the cause of MS.  I have read a little round the subject and just wondered if anyone had been through the procedure and knew about the risks of mercury vapour when they are removed and if there is a greater risk for someone with MS.

For instance if you have a hole in an old amalgam filling and have to have it removed, I wondered what the potential risks are.  My dentist said it is recommended that certain supplements are given and that the advice of a nutrititionist is given and she has given me a free helpline number to ring. I do not need to have this done, but there is some negative stuff written about amalgam fillings and so I am just investigating. I note what Cobob says and will also ask my neurologist in september when I next go for trial.

Cheers for input folks, and apologies for being absent recently but needed a break over the summer (although the weather has not been great here in England). I am at last over my relapse and painted my kitchen which felt a triumph when my arms had been so heavy and painful for weeks in relapse.

Only as the crack and need to be replaced.  Mercury is not a big issue in the human body.  Mercury vapor is.  The Mercury vapor is neurotoxic.  An amalgam is a mixture of two metals that bind them.

More vapor is released in removing the filling than leaving it alone (one of the reason they keep that suction in your mouth when they drill them out.   Ask your neuro and your dentist, but it is not normally considered a good idea.  You could have a heavy metal screen done just to have your levels tested.  There have been a few issues with fillings, but much of what you read about it on the Internet is psuedo science and hyperbole.

Are you thinking of having them replaced?  I hope this is not in response to a concern that these fillings are associated with your MS.
