Amantadine
Hello all!  I am from over at the limbo-land forum but have posted here occasionally.  Anyhoo, I saw my MS specialist for the first time today and left there with a script for amantadine (sp?).  Thoughts?  Anyone else take it, does it help, what do you take it for?

He told me he was prescribing it for fatigue, which was never even discussed (which makes think either a. I look like complete s*%$, or b. it's also for fatigue of my muscles, which he could see during his exam).  I just wanted some input before I begin yet another medication.

Thanks in advance!

Amantadine is an anti-viral medication but some research has shown that it helps with MS fatigue.

My neuro rx'd it for me and it did absolutely nothing to help the fatigue.

I currently take Nuvigil for fatigue and it has changed my life soooo much.

I've been taking it for about 6 months now. It's supposed to be for my MS fatigue. It works a little bit, but not as much as I would like.

Hi Sarah,
I totally agree with Kelly. I have been taking Amantadine for about 8 months fo MS fatigue. It has helped a little bit but I still fatigue often and easily.I'm not sure how much longer I wil continue to take it since it doesn't seem to really be helping me. I hope you have better luck with it!

A neuro rx'd this for me for fatigue.  I didn't seem to get any benefit from the Amantadine.  :-/  I haven't heard from many people who have said it helped them with their fatigue.  :-/

If you have fatigue, I know having something to help, even a little bit, is better than nothing so - I hope it helps if you need it.

If you don't have fatigue - I'd be following up with your doc to confirm why he rx'd it for you.

Jen.

Maybe I should clarify...I do have fatigue, we just never discussed it which made me wonder why he thought I was fatigued.

I have been taking it since Thursday, and so far I feel my endurance is slightly better but still fatigued.  I have also been very edgy and irritable since I started taking it.  I don't know if I'll continue with it, but we'll see.

Thanks!

I "was" on Provigil.  The only thing I felt was as if I drank 12 cups of coffee and was mentally alert but my body wasn't keeping up with the mind.  (I'm sure you get my drift).

However, I had to go off Provigil and Baclofen for I was having adverse side effects from both.

Still stuck with the fatigue unfortunately.

Good luck to you and I hope that your fatigue will get better in time.

Lisa
