Amnesia again

Amnesia again

A little before we moved I had another bout of amnesia.  I guess I was looking around the house and saw all these boxes packed to move.  I did not know how or why all the boxes where packed and spread around the house.

My wife came home and she said I looked a bit lost.  She says I told her that I was confused about all the boxes and thought for a while that she was leaving me.

Well, we are now moved and what I do remember is the moving day.  I help people move us, but I had to be told to where we were moving.  I am told I did a lot of the packing of those boxed.  But, I do not remember packing any boxes.

You just can't seem to get a break! I am sorry that you have so much going on at one time. Having bouts of amnesia certainly doesn't make things any easier.

Take care,
Ren

All the stress you are under - losing the home, separating the family, your wife's illness, your own health ..... they all may be contributing to the amnesia but it could be something more.  Have you given your doctor a call and told them about this problem?  It may be significant and more than just a "bout" - take care, Lulu

I think it is significant, but it's not unusual.  Did I ever tell you about the time I had gone to bed - hubby was puttering around, and before I knew it, I had gone to sleep.  When this strange man got into bed, it surprised me!  Until I remembered - oh yeah, that's my hubby.

I've also had times when I felt like I was in the past - if that makes any sense.  Even though I knew I was in the present, my brain kept thinking about things in terms of ten years ago.  It's extremely hard to explain.

I also sometimes have a problem with recognition.  I'm staring at the person, but my brain doesn't recognize them.  Sometimes it's a week later when I realize that yes, I did know them,   and now I'm embarrassed.

But all that aside, it sounds like you're having a cognitive impairment flareup.  Make sure your friends and wife know about it, and don't make any important decisions for a while.  I made some very expensive mistakes during my last cognitive flareup.

The one thing for me is that I always am brought back to reality when I look into my wife's eyes.  She has very deep and wonder poet's eyes that no one else I have met has such eyes.

It sounds like your wife is a treasure.  I don't know what I'd do without my hubby.

It sounds like a seizure to me....have you ever been checked for seizures? I have complex partials. I zone out with a blank stare. One time I was at an intersection about two blocks from the area I have lived in for 25 years .....and I had no idea where I was, didn't know which way we should turn, nothing looked familar. Seizures are more common in MS patients then in the general population. I don't know if mine are from MS or not.

Hope you are feeling better soon :)

Yes, I have checked for seizures.  They tried to make me have one.  But, I did not have one when they tested.  The did find an area of small inactivity in my brain though.

Did they check you for "absent seizures" ?  sure sounds like one

You're not coming around after having been blank - you're just not remembering a block of time, right?  Seizure activity is very common, but so is memory loss.

At times like that, i have to keep asking what's going on and what we're doing - although I'm pretty capable once I know the task at hand.

When I lose memory it is gone.

I've noticed recently that my short-term memory may not store the information properly, but sometimes it gets stored anyway - I've had moments when I was sure I didn't remember something, and then later my brain disgorges the misfiled memory.  Usually though if I can't remember it, it's gone.
