Morning Lu and Ess,
Well, I have been up since 3 A.M. due this this darn tooth pain. My dentist said I "shouldn't" have any pain in a tooth that had a root canal. Makes no sense to him, plus everything looked good in the xray. He told me to call the Endodontist today if the pain still persisted, and tell the endodontist that perhaps the root canal went bad?!
I think my dentist just has no idea, and he would agree to that. I am still taking my full load of TN medication with a new one that was added about 6 weeks ago as well.
This tooth is just not happy, and neither am I today :( my dentist said a tooth cant crack under a crown...I disagree, and think (and hope) that might be the problem here.
Anyway, I will call soon, and see what if anything can be done. The pain is not the worst I have had of course, but I dont like it either. When it affects my sleep it leaves me on the grouchy side..
Thanks for listening to me,
Michelle
Hi Michelle. So sorry this is happening again.
I've had a couple of cracked teeth (seems to run in my family). One was sensitive for years, but the dentist couldn't find anything wrong, so I guess it didn't show on the x-ray. Finally, one morning it just cracked in half, and that was that. Dentist kept building up the area, and eventually it had to be crowned.
The pain for that was nowhere near what I understand TN pain is like. Fortunately I don't have personal experience with TN.
However, I'm wondering if it's even possible to have real tooth pain in a tooth that's had a root canal. What did your dentist say about that? I'm afraid you might be getting TN on the other side now.
Are you taking your TN med at the moment? Can you experiment with that? It is common for TN people to have extractions which do no good at all. How are you today\?

Hold off on pulling that tooth - I had something similar a few years ago and I'm thinking that the cap had come loose and air was leaking in, causing the pain. I've done cracked teeth too, but that would show up on the x-ray.
feel better, L
