Any ideas

Back in February I started having alot of aches andpains.  GP did a ANA which came back 648 and sed rate of 30.  He sent me to a Rhuem (?) and they ran more blood work including another ANA which came back normal.  Sed rate is still at 30.  I have had EMG/NCN which came back as normal except for Carpal Tunnel in both arms (I had this due to lower arms and hands going to sleep.  The Rhuem  says I am fine except for a low Vitamin D level.  Any way I now have a new very wierd symptom.  In my right I I see these little bright lights zipping around.  My vision hasnt gotten any worse and this is all the time.  Just very annoying when it happens.  Stii am having the aches of upper and lower arms, feet, ankles, and lower back.

Hi, you pretty clearly have an inflammatory process going on that does not sound like MS.  There are other things that you should investigate.  One of them is Lyme Disease which can cause all of the symptoms you have mentioned including the false-postive ANA.  It can also cause inflammations in the eyes,

Now if you have only had two ANA determinations, we know one of them is wrong, but we really don't know which one.  I would recommend that the ANA be repeated.

You clearly are not "fine" because you have diffuse pain, visual changes, low Vit D and a mildly elevated sed rate.  30 is barely elevated for a woman, but definitely elevated for a man.  It annoys me when a doctor determines that a person is well because there are not enough abnormal labs instead of looking at and listening to the patient.

I would recomend a few things:

1)  See an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist) about the zippy, zingy bright spots

2)  Repeat the ANA

3)  Get a second rheum opinion

4)  Be tested for Lyme Disease with a Western Blot, not just the screening ELISA antibody test.

I hope this helps and, as I said earlier, this does not sound like MS at all.
