Anyone Have This?

Am better now but have never had this and wondered if I should put it on my list for my neuro in September.

I woke up one day last week with an ear ache, my throat felt like someone had been choking me, my shoulders were sore, my arms were sore.  I was looking for bruises as it felt like I had been in a fight and had lost against several attackers!  I could find none but every muscle from my ears to my waist hurt.

I managed sleep by showers and 500mg Aleve at bedtime.  This lasted about 4 days and then disappeared like it had never been there.  Weird.  No, I was not on my steroid at the time.  I had just finished my last dose two days earlier.

So, not having any experience with this type of problem, was wondering whether to just forget it or add it to my list.

Yes, I feel much better but I'm still on those strong meds (valium and Ibuprofen) until Monday. After that, I will really see if pain is still there or not without meds.

It aounds like you've developed spasticity in a shoulder muscle. I seem to have a new one every six months. Sometimes being sick can trigger a mini flare too. See if there's a way to stretch or massage that muscle. This month, my problem child is the muscle that runs from the small of your back, over your hips, down the front of your thigh and ends inside your knee.I think it's the illiopsoas. I can stretch it with the hurdlers stretch - foot pulled up to my butt Its amazing how much mobility that gives me.

I went to ER this Friday because pain was unbearable and they told me I was having muscle spams in my lower back and neck area and that was probably pressing some nerves (specially sciatica). They told me I had to take muscle relaxers and I told them I was taking Flexeril but now they changed it to Valium (Diazepam). They told me that Valium is a stronger muscle relaxer and I'm supposed to take 5 mg Valium every 8 hours for 5 days until I can go to a spine specialist to see what is causing this pain. They also gave me Ibuprofen 800 mg 3 times a day. It's helping with pain but I was still feeling the nerve inside my leg. They told me stress can cause those muscle spams and pain.
I went to a "sobador" yesterday and they massage you really strong to adjust all your bones and nerves and I was able to feel how my neck, arm and sciatica nerves were totally stiff and painful. I was feeling like knots all over them and the guy massaged them and rubbed so strong that at the end they were normal again. I don't feel any nerve pain today but my arms are totally bruised due to the strong massage. I had same massage years ago and pain was out like for 3-4 years.

I can't take Tramadol, I have a whole list of medication allergic reactions, but will keep all posted on what my neuro says the end of September.

Thanks for all the comments!

I had the same symptoms from February thru June this year and pain was so bad that I couldn't work or concentrate in anything. My face, neck, shoulders, arms and back were numb and I felt like weak, and pain was like sharp coming from my ears to my face. My lymph nodes were swollen and I felt like choking all the time and woke up many times gasping for air.  Every day I was waking up feeling like I was hit by a truck during the night, completely sore and weak. Sometimes I just felt like I wanted to cry because doctors didn't understand what I was feeling and didn't want to give me anything for the pain. My doctor finally gave me Tramadol but I never took it because I take Concerta (stimulant) and I am not supposed to mix them. Finally, I changed my general doctor and he gave me Flexeril (muscle relaxer) and after I took it for 3 or 4 days pain was gone. They suspected trigeminal neuralgia but after some MRI's they ruled it out and until now they don't know what caused it.
Hope you can find some answers.

well, to update this, everything went away except the right shoulder pain and I still have the right shoulder pain, which comes and goes much like a spasm but occasionally sharp pain.......wonder how doc is going to explain this one when I see him next month.  Hope we are not progressing to another level, this isn't fun any more (not that it ever was)  I even saw the osteopathic doc, who "kneaded" me for an hour and moved the 4th rib back into place.

He said he thought it originated with a 4 day "hug" and then the shoulder pain was the residual but his expertise ended there.  Sigh.

heh you, I don't have it much lately, but I have the ear thing, and the swollen glands in my throat ( checked by throat specialist) everything ok, hoarse voice, and looking for bruises on my thighs and calves.

Surprising, the inside of my thighs did have bruises, but I never bumped myself or anything, and then on the outside of my right calf the same thing.... it is like veins are exploding or something.  But, it does feel llike a muscle thing, and I wonder about a flu thing, and I am sore and stiff, and don't like it.

I am also wondering , no steroid thing this time, but I am on my 2nd bought of Cipro ..... don't know if that is the cause.

I hope you find the answer soon sweetie, and that you feel better soon,

((HUGS)) my friend,
Candy

interesting, and yes, that's how I felt.  I take steroids for 5 days every month, in connection with my Tysabri infusion, but this was new.  Thanks for the insight, I think you have "nailed it" exactly.

Sarah... I have felt like this before. I felt like this after my one and only steroids and taper. I thought it was a cold... But no runny nose. No congestion. Felt like my lympnods were on fire causing sore to touch muscles across tops of arms., back and front of chest and neck.
It was a muscle flu of sorts. It was odd... And exactly as u said looking for bruises

Yeah, I could understand the allergy and ear stuff, but it was the feeling of "being beaten up" that just tossed my brain........all I could come up with was a seizure during the night and that scared me..........but if it happens again, will definitely mention it to him.

I do take allergy meds every day and sinus draining stuff.............

I have to wonder if it may be connected to all the moving of stuff at your home. Perhaps all the dust and cobwebs you have shaken free might have caused the ear discomfort and throat problem.

If it troubles you, definitely mention it to your docs and let them decide.

I can't say that I have had it but I think it is worth mentioning to the neuro. Do you have any swallowing difficulty?
