Anyone have spasm problems?

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on in a while. I have had another symptom develop-spasms. They started in my legs about a month ago, and two weeks ago my jaw locked shut. The ER gave me valium iv and it helped. But due to the spasm I cracked four of my molars. Last Friday I had to have them cut out, and implants put in.
Are the spasms part of the MS? They are bad in my legs and feet. Every day they happen. The ER didn't give me any scripts for meds at home.

I too have terrible spasms. I take baclofen 4X/ day. Quinine was just prescribed as well, but can't start it yet - tests coming up next week that neuro wants me "spasm med free" for. Glad your doc was helpful - good to know there are some out there:)

Take care,

Penn

Good to hear that you had a great GP appointment and he was able to give you some meds.

Yeah, I like Xanax, but I have to pace myself on it.   :)

I'm glad that you are moving forward on the disability paperwork.  I didn't think that the Fire Dept was on the "up and up" by firing you due to your disability, but you do need to find out what suing them would entail.  That's awesome that your Uncle can help you with that!

I wish you the best with your job hunt!!  Many prayers for you!

Take care!  Pat :)

I just got back from my family doc. He was wonderful and sympathetic to my MS situation. He gave me a script for 90 Valium a month, and four refils. He said if that dosen't help he'll switch it to Xanax. ( he said women of childbearing years have to be on birth control in order to take Xanax, dur to the the birth defects) I just took my first dose, it's already helping!
I am working on the disability paprework today. My doc said he would sign them. :) I am also looking for another job. My uncle is a lawyer and he said I could sue my fire department for firing me due to MS symptoms. (I have to think if it's worth the hassle)

Hi

So sorry for what your going through at the moment i had the lock jaw thing after i had my wisdom teeth out my whole jaw locked tight i could just about get a straw through it, i had steroids in the end though that was more to reduce the swelling i had.
I had a bad bout of muscle spasms back in May then again two weeks later they started in my feet and hands and spread to my arms face i could not walk or even feed myself but they did ease they lasted for a week then eased to mild for a week then flared up badly again i was given amitripiline but which did nothing i was also getting lots of nerve pain and tight bands at the time so my dc put me on lyrica 75mg it didnt work at first and made me tired but its since been increased to 375mg and i think it does help the nerve pain and the muscle spasms seem to have gone for now i get the odd one a day but only mild im sure its the drug though i guess it could just of been a bout of sx which have gone for now!!

you should try and get some meds

God Bless

I've wondered how you have been doing.  I'm so sorry that you are having severe spasms!!!  :(

I've read of many people with MS that have the muscle spasms.

Did you get your insurance worked out yet?   You need to get some meds!  I hope you can get help for those soon!

Take care and keep us posted!  Pat :)

Yes,I suffer terrible spasms and some days they are extremely bad.

I take a cocktail of meds for them, baclofen, zanaflex, valuim and at night quinine. If the pain gets bad with them then pain meds are added.

It is my worst symptom.

I hope you can get some releif.

I have spasms too, but have never had them that severe.  They have cut off circulation in my leg and my hand before, but that only lasted for a few minutes, maybe half an hour at most.  Did you do as Karina said?  It sounds terrible.  I know my doctors are concerned about my near constant muscle twitching/spasms, but they aren't even noticable, unless you touch me.  I can't imagine how they could not be concerned wiht muscle spasms that great in intensity.  I would definitely report these new symptoms to the neuro.  I was given anti-seizure medicine.  Maybe someone else knows of something that would help you.

Did you get your insurance for meds straightened out? Did you check int o seing if you could get FMLA, like quix suggested? What all symptoms do you have? Any balance probs? Memory probs? Are you sensitive to heat at all? These are all symptoms of MS, so are the spasms. They definitely aren't fun.   Karina

Yes unfortunately spasms are part of MS. I have them really  bad. I am taking Baclofen for it. Have had some troubles with it. Have you told your neuro abt them yet? If not you should, as soon as you can. They can prescribe something to help. Karina

That sounds awful, really nasty. Have they given you any more medication? I really hope youi can get some relief.

I do get spasms in my legs. I've also been getting spasms in my neck and shoulders.  When they start in my neck they seem to throw my head back, then I seem to loose my hearing in my right hear for about 15 seconds.  The ones in my neck are not constant, luckily they come and go but when I get spasms in my legs they seem to stick for a few hours at a time over a few days.

I'm waiting to see an MS Specialist at the moment so haven't been disgnosed.  I did ask my neuro were these signs of ms but she didn't seem to know, although others on here have said they may be part of it.

I really hope things calm down a bit for you and the more knowledgeable guys on here can help you further.

Take care

Em
