Anyone here finding swimming helpful?

I've posted that I am back on the bike and now have an appointment to join a gym but just for swimming - they have three great pools - I want to help my body keep in shape thinking it will help me stay strong. Must admit lately, I've been giving in to the couch thing -rest and weep - but feeling so much better using the bike and now wondering if others here were swimming and if it helps.

If it weren't for trying to squeeze into a swimsuit, I think swimming would be ideal!

Swimming IS great exercise.  The only thing I would caution you about is the water temperature.  If it is too hot (like my sister-in-law keeps it), then it can raise your core temp and if you have MS, it can give you a pseudo-exacerbation.  Many of us have heat intolerance.

But you're on the right track!  Swimming is an excellent form of fun exercise.  I just grease up my thighs to get the suit on and I'm good to go!

Feel well,

Swimming is a great cardiovascular exercise and not traumatic to the joints.  It's a great idea!!!    Zilla brings up a great point about water temp.

Craig can't move his legs in the water, but he is using just  his arms to swim in our pool this year.

Have fun!

Yeah water temp. can be a problem - the lap pool is kept cool - expert swimmers don't like it warm - I just go at a turtle's pace - looking forward to doing the most I can to help my body stay limber. Just found out too that I have a partial slipped disc V4&5 and also degeneration that is worse than the slipped disc - so that leaves out alot of stuff for me to do - but swimming and biking I know are okay. Now the MS dx is yet to be determined - not that I want to be sick, I don't, but I do like to know the score - as don't we all.
