Article on Buffalo study on CCSVI and MS

Study could hold key to MS treatment: http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/899766.html

"[Robert] Zivadinov, director of the Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center, is careful not to hype the new theory as groundbreaking medicine. Multiple sclerosis is a complex disorder, and skeptics raise questions that have not yet been answered.

"But Zivadinov and others also view the early evidence as compelling and are excited about the potential prospects for patients and for the MS medical programs in Buffalo that might get a head start in pioneering a new treatment.

“'We’re two to four years away from being able to say whether this can be recommended as a treatment and understanding its value,' Zivadinov said. 'This is the nature of science. We need data.'"

It sounds promising except for the 2-4 years part...

“'We’re very encouraged but can’t say it’s a 100 percent thing yet,' said Zivadinov." At least he's trying to find out, though.

Also maybe of interest, the UK Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre has a nice page on CCSVI at http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=show&pageid=2944. If you scroll down past the intro bit, they've just posted something intriguing speculating that  "Epstein-Barr virus may cause Multiple Sclerosis through involvement of the venous system," along with a lot of other interesting information.

Also, the University of British Columbia is planning a CCSVI study:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/ubc-plans-to-test-potentially-groundbreaking-ms-treatment/article1401820/

This trial is supposed to include a treatment arm and half the people with MS who have narrowed veins will undergo angioplasty (balloons like I had).
