I started taking Copaxone 4 years ago when I was diagnosed with MS at the age of 60 and I have been using the auto injector. About 11 months ago I went from the daily shot of Copaxone to the 3 times per week dose. All was going well until about 6 months ago when (for lack of a better word) I started having "misfires"... The needle would go in and I would do my usual "one thousand one, one thousand two" count up to 11 and then pull the injector off the location of where I was giving my shot.
As I pulled the injector away, the entire dose of Copaxone would then shoot all over my bathroom. I never experienced this when I was doing the daily shot. I now get a "misfire" about once per month, but I've had two in a row in a week.
I'm not sure why this is happening but I will be seeing my neurologist in Dallas in a few days and I'm going to ask him if I can switch to a different medication.
I received a brand new auto injector a month ago and I had a misfire with it on the very first use of it, a shot in the belly (the easiest one to give having easy viewing of the procedure and rarely any pain) and then on my last attempt just a few hours ago into my left hip, I had a misfire and the Copaxone sprayed all over my bathroom mirror and I even counted up to 20 on my timing and not the usual 11 count.
I guess there are two possible issues here that might be the problem.
#1. The 3-times per week dose inside the needle is larger than the once per day dose I had been doing in the first three years using this product and I noticed the syringe has more medication in it. Is the injector having problems because of the larger volume of medication?
#2. I've also noticed since my diagnosis, that I'm dropping small things out of my hands quite easily. It is difficult to hold a bar of soap when I am in the shower, and when I open my meds to take pills, I sometimes either drop the lid to the small bottles or drop the pill.
