B12 and ms symptoms

I have just been told my MRI is clear by nero secretary yesterday (good news) however ive being having ms type symptoms for a long time .i was also told i have low B12 by her aswell but according to my GP my earlier blood results were fine (can this change)
my symptoms have been getting worse ive also been told i have Peripheral neuropathy and waiting for a nerve test to confirm this and can this damage be repaired.
my question is can a low B12 cause nerve damage and  psychological problems ie depression mood changes forgetfullness memory probs etc .these seem to be getting worse as the weeks go on including severe muscle cramps and weekness
any advice please

Ruth

i have good and bad days but lately more bad then good my main problem at the moment and has been for a while is ataxia and neck pain esp when putting my head down and if i look up i nearly fall over had several trips to hospital so far as a result of falls
i get one infection after another seems to hit me harder then anyone else
i have not seen my nero yet or seen the results my self i was told be coming through the post
i was just told over phone she didnt say how low, im not sure what it should be either hopefully will find out in a few days
(i will have at look on this site)

i am also so not as placid as i once in fact i have a number of personality changes so ive been told by family
i do stupid things for example make a cup of tea and put that away in the cupboard instead of the tea bags .etc
i have a good education but forgetting how to spell simple words, takes me ages to write something down

i feel like i losing not just control of my body but my  mind to

hope i get to bottom of it soon seems like its been going on forever and everyday  gets harder and harder

Hi, Ruth.

Do you know how low your B12 is? We've had many discussions on MS versus B12 deficiency, because symptoms can be quite similar. If you'd like to read some of these, use the 'Search this Community' button on the upper right. Enter 'B12 symptoms,' and you will find a lot to read.

If B12 deficiency is what's behind your problems, you would not have a pattern of relapsing and remitting, it would be constant. Is that true of you?

Often nerve damage cannot be repaired, but it's possible to keep it from getting worse, depending on the cause.

If you can, get copies of the MRI itself and also the report from it. We'd like to hear what it says. Meanwhile, have new blood testing, including thyroid, vitamin levels, and all other mimics of MS, but concentrate on the B12.

I hope things improve for you soon.
