B12 deficiency / MS?

by Heather1987, Jul 10, 2009 10:05AM
Hello
Last year (July )my B12 was 190 at which time I had vertigo, memory problems, tiredness but was told all my blood tests were fine including my B12 I never came to a conclusion of why I experienced these symptoms over several months.  I started to take multivitamins convinced I was short of something and upped my exercise regime. Thinsg improved until this July. I have been recently diagnosed with low B12 (130) after going to the doctor with symptoms of numbness, tingling which started in my feet then over a week has spread up to my top thighs. My balance is off as is my co-ordination with my hands.
My doctor does not think my b12 was low enough to cause these symptoms but has stated me on B12 injections , I have had 7 injections every other day and feel my energy levels up and slight improvement in numbness and tingling from toes up am getting very sore toes and night cramps now in my lower legs. Doctor thinks it is caused by something else and  has now stopped my B12 inj and is referring me to neurologist. I am wondering if a B12 of this level could cause peripheral neuropathy and if it is reversible? Also, could it be a symptom of MS?
Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.  Did you ever get your B-12 levels re-tested to see where they are now? I'm sorry for your returning symptoms, but glad you found us here and hope we can help you out.

I do not know the instances of MSers and peripheral neuropathy, but think it's not as common.

Definitely keep a running list of what is going on.  And, jot down in timeline fashion what happened last yr. That way you are ready for your appt. w/the neuro.  It's easy to forget things once they resolve, especially if the issue gets replaced with a new one.

Thanks for joining us,
Shell

Hi Shell
Thanks for your reply.
I have not had my B12 retested as my doctor wants to retest in 2-3 months. I am hoping my neurologist appointment comes through before then.
Good idea to keep a diary.
Thanks again for the advice.
Regards
Heather
