BRAIN MRI RESULTS with questions please any comments

by missy142, Apr 18, 2009 12:02PM
I just got my radiologist report back of my brain MRI. States "Several scattered nonspecific punctate perventricular white matter signal hyperintensities may be of incidental note".  Differential diagnosis woud include minor changed related to migraine headaches.  I have recently seemed to develop migraines.

The reason for the  Brain and thoracic MRI is I have alot of spine issues. HX: cervical herniations with ventral cord impression C5/6, C6/7, cervical spinal stenosis, foraminal narrowing, ventral cord abutment, too much to read off.  (5)  thorasic bulges and 1 thoracic herniation T7/8 pressing on thecal sac and L5/S1 herniation which we thought was behind all my Lower extremity issues but according to that MRI there isnt any nerve impingement.

Ortho ordered  thorasic spine and brain MRI  because he feels "THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON".  He does not aspire to the idea apparently that cervcical herniations even with cord impression cause Lower extremity issues. Thoracic MRI which was done on .6T machine (I know NOW, no good if looking for lesions, but he never said what he was looking for or what type of MRI machine I should go to, so I went to the open ones like I always do, sitting up)  THORACIC RESULTS - stated above

HX: 3/08 my right foot went numb, following with bilateral leg pain, I woke up the next day and couldnt walk, severe muscle weakness, could barely stand, it has relented since and platead and I am able to walk about 20 mins before they become spastic, clumsy and stiff, sitting or lying down relieves the problem completely at this point.  I have paresthesias in groin, buttock, right foot, sometimes left, cervical area numbness now, few inches below base of skull.  I have also had increased word finding problems (pretty bad)  that other have noticed and have started studdering at times

My ortho doesnt seem to relate the lower extremity weakness with the 2 cervical herniations impressing on the cord, god only knows why. ( I have never had UE weakness just pain, radiculopathy, paresthesias) . I am to see a neuro on the 27th, neurosurgeon on 24th.

PHEW!  QUESTION  SHOULD I GET ANOTHER THORACIC AND CERVICAL MRI ON A 3T MACHINE TO LOOK FOR OTHER PATHOLOGIES SUCH AS LESIONS?  and  THE REASON I AM SO WORRIED is that my LE weakness happend literally OVERNIGHT.  I dont know if cord compression happens like this, there was no acute trauma.

Does anyone think it would be too much of a coincidence to have thoracic lesions and all these spine problems.  Basically im scare that if someone doesnt find out the reason for the muscle weakness, paresthesias etc. I may not be able to walk again normally.

thanks,
missy
ps.  I realize i am asking for alot of speculation, but when you are in between correct dx's of anykind i guess it human nature.

hi Missy, I just responded to your other post and bumped it up - hopefully some one knowledgeable will be able to help.  My brain is mush right now and I'm off to bed.

I'll check your posts tomorrow and see if anyone has come forward.

yes that would be great, thankyou.  I know there's alot of spine stuff and thats not what this forum is for but when I asked ortho what he was talking about when he said "something esle" i said like what MS? and he said "yeah, and other things." So thats why ive posted here.  Ive also got to stop trying to dx myself as its driving me mad.  But i just dont believe they are moving fast enough and my nerves could be being permanently damaged.

Correction to post it was 3/09 went I couldnt walk, as Ive stated I do get around much better now but I doubt I could run or even walk up a flight of stairs without pulling on the bannister.  I can go 20-30 minutes and it feels like ive been standing for hours!  Also RLS symptoms ive never had before, fatigue of course, memory is crappy.

Thankyou and I promise I wont write such long arduous posts anymore:)
