Babinski

That's just a cool name, I've decided.  But really, I was wondering if anyone could explain this to me.  I think that my Babinski was positive at my visit the other day, but the neuro didn't say anything about it....How do I know without asking him?

from the NIH website:

"Babinski's reflex occurs when the big toe moves toward the top of the foot and the other toes fan out after the sole of the foot has been firmly stroked.

This reflex, or sign, is normal in younger children, but abnormal after the age of 2."

you can see an explanation on this youtube clip...

There are a whole bunch more of Babinski clips on youtube as well- the ones of babies feet are really sweet.  :-)

be well,
Lulu
