Babinski's sign

Babinski's sign

Hey forum I just been reading up on the Babinski sign and no one told me that lack of movement could mean severe damage to the brain, more so, than a positive sign, any comments greatly recieved

Hi, CJ!

The Babinski sign is very confusing, indeed.  We have had many posts about this neuro phenomenon.

From what I understand, being 'positive' for Babinski, or rather, having the sign, as opposed to not having it, is an indication that something is amiss in the central nervous system.  Not good at all.

Having a 'silent' or 'absent' response when the examiner tests for the Babinski sign (the toes stay still, not going up or down) can mean a few things.  It can mean everything is normal, for one.  It can mean that things are beginning to take a turn, perhaps.  Or it can mean the examiner hasn't done the test properly.

I am pretty sure that having no reaction, where the toes are still, is no reason for alarm.

If you had no reaction, did your doctor comment on it?

Feel well,

Zilla*

had test done, there was no way neuro was gonna get a respose of any type,I am not a tickelish person on my feet at all, was when i was a kid, he did that test a couple times in bare feet and because i didnt know about the babinski's sign then I can honestly say that I wanted to slap him LOL, it just annoyed me. he was looking so damm hard for something but i didnt know what. I could feel what he did which is good, but had no inclination to move at all.
My doc said , nothing much on the report, which was long from what i could see and quickly put me back on the dreaded amitryptiline so I guess they are putting everything down to stress again. i'm not sure on anything anymore...I just want to cry sometimes and im so tired of footdrop, scoliosis, headaches, earaches, numb face and fingers , jerky bits, knocking things over etc the list is longer than i care to recall anymore, and to add insult to injury my vision is deteriorating, not much worried about hearing and heart stuff anymore got used to it years ago
thanks for your input tho it does help
hugs
CJ
