Back from Endodontist

Well, 1st the bad news, or the bad news?

I need 3 root canals and 3 crowns!!!!!!!!  The 3 teeth are all next to each other, upper right, and that is causing/triggering all my pain.  I am on some major pain killers right now, and able to at least "function" at the moment. There is lots of decay.

I have no choice but to get it done. This is LOTS of $$$$$$$$$$  and stress.

I am hopeful this might help some of my TN, since it is almost always on the right side.  I feel sick about the whole thing.

Came home, took one of my kids to the pediatrician about 2 hours ago. He has been sick for a couple of days, fever, now with rash and very sore throat. He has strep throat. Well, here we go...at least it is treatable with antibiotics. The next 3 should get it sometime within the week. At least we dont have to go to baseball tonight.

When it rains it pours sometimes.

My neuro called me today to see how I was feeling. That was VERY nice. I just love her. She is one of a kind, and truly has seen me at my worst the past 2 years, and has gotten to know me well. When she saw me yesterday, I guess I looked as bad as I feel.  I hope she never leaves my area.

Well, there is the update. Thanks again for all of you being here...

Please be very careful out there Michelle.  I just checked the weather report myself and plan to have my feet in the wading pool if I go outside.  Although the humidity is falling out of the 80+ numbers, it is expected to get stuck again in the 60% range.  Combine that with temps in the 80's and you still get air with a tropical feel that won't allow sweat to evaporate.

So when do you get a day off?

I'm going to go think about ice and down filled coats and the dog body surfing in fresh snow.  Ahhhhhhhhhh.  Didn't need the scooter then!

It is 9:18 in the morning. Raining on and off. Weather is calling for sun with thunderstorms mixed in.

Ren, I guess at this point, hold off on the rain dance.  Charlie is too excited.  Cake is done, Pinata is filled, Baseballs are wrapped (as party favors), and he is already dressed. Lets just playball!

I have a couple pain pills and coffee in my system and so far so good.

Thanks again for all good wishes...

love to all

Michelle,

So sorry about all the dental work needed and the added insult of expense!

I am good at the "rain dance"! You didn't specify a time.  When you place your order , I need details woman, lol.

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you and your family.

Lots of hugs,

Ren

Ummmmm, it's 12:24am and the thunder is rolling as pitter patter is starting on the roof.  That doesn't rule out a washout for the party tomorrow though :)  It seems April showers waited until June this year.

The rain burst earlier today just raised the heat and humidity to new heights instead of bringing any relief.  It's terrible weather here for everyone but MSers BEWARE!!!  (I live about 20 miles south of Michelle for those of you who don't already know.)

HA HA HA!

I knew it would make you feel better! No insurance, health or dental, over here its a personal choice to get insurance, all medical is covered or at least heavily substituted by government, no out of pocket for anything done through hospital, about $18 O/P for GP visits and $100 O/P to see private specialists and your tests can end up free through public hospital. The medical system isn't perfect, and they are looking at the cost of dental because its blown out, at least pensioners get free dental through the dental hospitals but not working people.

But the dentist is another thing altogether, luckyily she is eligable for government assisstance due to her medication, long term use of antidepressants endep Zoloft etc have an accepted link to dental issues over here, so its subsidised and she'll get back just over $4,000 through that, at least its something lol!

DD isn't over yet, another opp in 6 weeks, which is at a private hospital and the O/P is just on $2,000 each time, yuck! The plan is for the bulk to be finished by October, she's only just begining but when its done she'll have her smile back.

Oh i love the $ sign stars, i see stars every day and i'm sure if I try hard enough, i could turn them into $'s floating around my vision lol.

Cheers.........JJ

PS I do hope after the dentist is done your pain will be over too!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!  Actually, I really DO feel SO much better!!! Thank you so much for sharing...

That is CRAZY!  Did your health insurance pick any of that up for you? After they said 22,000, you probably saw dollar signs going round and round the docs eyeballs, like they do in a cartoon!

I went in the wrong field. I would like my children to go into any type of dental field. They sure can rake it in...

You poor dd has certainly had her share of pain, poor thing. I hope she is done for awhile with any teeth issues. Hope it is smooth sailing from here on out...

Oh My Michelle,

Why do you pay dental insurance? I can't get my head around your out of pocket, I would of thought being insured it would be the other way around, are you sure thats right because it doesn't sound fair at all.

DD just had her second operation to remove 5 teeth, thats 9 since March, 1 was dormant and in the roof of her mouth almost in her nose, all her roots are slit hooks so its not easy getting them out, lots and lots of stitches. Just so you feel better, the bill for getting 3 porcelain veneers, 2 opps, temperary plate is, drrrrdrrrrdrrrrdrrrr (drum roll lol) $22,000.

Funny but I didn't hear a word she said after hearing $22,000, thats actually the discounted price (reeeeeeeaaaaaallllY!?) the dentist had over $8,000 to add to that, but there is no reason to see him at all for this, his costs where for just going through him, he can get his house extention through someone else!!

Do you feel better? lol sympathy but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, right!?

Cheers.....JJ

Thanks for all your comments.  The shock is sort of wearing off...

Turns out the cost will be about $6000.00, and my dental insurance will be covering $614.00.  (Why do I pay for dental insurance anyway???)

I am still in lots of pain, and basically very very very irritable and crabby. Tomorrow is my youngest sons bday party. I have 10 little boys going to a baseball field for a baseball game, and pizza, cake and pinata. (it is SO HOT and HUMID here...:(

( I am wishing for a thunderstorm so we can cancel tomorrow...is that awful? I better go check the forecast)

Just wanted to thank you all for listening and being so supportive.

Oh, Michelle!  Ugh!!  My heart goes out to you.  It took two months to pay off one crown.  I cant imagine paying off three!!  I have no dental insurance though - hopefully you do?...

Take good care, and have a nice sorbet to keep things cool and happy.
Thinking of you,

I don't know how you managed to think about us sitting here waiting for an update when you're going through all this.  Sure glad you did though and filled us in.

I hope the pay off for you is that once the dental work is done the chance of setting off the nerve pain goes way down.  The best pay off for you would be if you never have to give another thought to having that surgery to control the TN pain.

Perhaps the pain med will allow you to care less about (and even ignore) all those irritations in your mouth and around the house, if you get my drift.

When you have the root canals done I highly recommend having them use a little gas during the procedure. That is what I had done the first time I had a root canal done. It helps a lot with the anxiety during the time in the chair. The gave me just enough to take the edge off and I think it helped post procedure because I had not been tensing up.

Oh my dear.  Just try to keep your nose above the water line and everything will turn out alright.

I hate to hear about that huge dentist bill, and especially having to go through 3 root canals.  Money is tight, but you have to have teeth that work.

Take it easy this weekend.  Between you and your son, I think everyone can chip in and help with stuff around the house so you both can recover.

Love you lots,

Julie

Oh my you have a lot to go through, I'm going to have 3 teeth pulled on my right upper side of my face.  I have to call the dentist to book this before my pain starts up again, and I'm nervous about booking it.

enough about me.. did you get some antibiotics for yourself.. ?  Being in so much pain you might have an infection and should have something for that

Your Neuro sounds so nice...wish we could all have one so caring and concerned.

take care and hope you can get this done asap.

Oh Michelle, what a mess! I do hope you actually need all that dental work, especially considering the cost. I know I've read that often the real cause is the TN. But I guess if the endodontist found lots of decay, then that is at least contributing to the problem.

Arrgghh, do you have dental insurance? That's so much help. Even if you still have to pay a lot, it's much much less than without insurance.

I'm sorry your little guy is sick. Maybe this time it actually won't get passed around the family.

Thank heavens for your wonderful neuro. Try pouring yourself a little glass of wine and giving a toast to that kind soul.

Many hugs,
ess

The worst pain of my life was  dry socketed nerve pain from my wisdom teeth extraction. Let's hope when this is solved your pain is gone with it.
