Birth Control related to Neuro abnormalties

by skarey, Mar 11, 2009 01:23PM
When thinking about what had happened this go round of my "attack" I realized that I had started taking birth control pills a few days to a week before my neurological symptoms came about.    Can birth control cause side effects such as numbness, tingling, dizziness, fatigue, and weakness?   I quit taking them just in case.  Just curious if anyone has heard of this.
Also the last time my symptoms were here two years ago, I was taking Lexapro.  Neither my dr or neuro at the time thought that the antidepressent could cause such neuro symptoms.
I really haven't been on any meds since  the lexapro (which I discontinued shortly after the inital symptoms came about two years ago)  and now the birth control.
Could I be ultra sensitive to meds?  I've never been like this before in the past.
  Anyways just thinkin....

I have heard someone else, on a different forum, say that they found out that their neuro problems were found to be related to Mirena (sp?). I don't know anything about it, personally, so I don't know how it differs from other birth control. Would this happen to be what you're on?

I have been wondering the same thing lately. I spoke to my neurologist today and he didn't seem to think so, but the safety inserts warn about pain, numbness and tingling. He told me to go ahead and stop taking the pills for about 3 months to see what happens. I am currently on a non-name brand, low-dose pill.
