Black outs
I usually get a little lightheaded and black out when I stand up too quickly. But today and yesterday It's made me completely passout. Where I fall and don't remember falling and loose all hearing and sight. I wake up on the floor. Just wondering if that's a cause for concern or if it's normal for people with MS.
If it were my body? The next time it happened, I would be in the ER. Things like this I don't mess with....losing consciousness and falling is serious.
I see my PCP the 25th. It was the soonest they could get me in. So I still don't know anything. I will post what she says. Although this Dr. is not my MS doctor so I don't know what she will have to say about the relationship with it.
So, what did the doctor say about you blacking out? Losing complete consciousness is serious as Alex said, when the brain is being deprived of blood and a person falls it is something that must be checked out.

Simple orthostatic hypotension would not cause this they told me. Their list of rule out diagnoses were seizures, aneurysm, heart abnormality such as an arrhythmia or congenital defect, MS, electrolyte imbalances,etc.

I've read of this occurring when MS is causing problems with the autonomic nervous system. It's not a common problem if it is MS related. My cousin, who has MS does this. Her MS has caused ANS dysfunction.
I've experienced this lately also..not a complete fainting..but close. Would like to know what your doctor has to say when you get back.

You'd be surprised! Patient says: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." Doctor says: "Then don;t do that!"
Glad you knew, but at 49, I have been known to do that "One Tequila, Two Tequila , Three Tequila , FLOOR!" thing every few years or so, and I should know better!

Passing out while standing up is typically related to a fall in blood pressure. The condition is called to as "Orthostatic Hypotension." Make sure you are staying well hydrated. If you are taking any medications (including Over the Counter Meds) be sure to bring a list of what you are taking to your doctors appointment. In the mean time, consider standing up more slowly to allow your body to adjust to the change in position.
I agree with everyone, call your doctor and get checked out. Better to be safe than sorry. Like everyone said it could be nothing but then it could be something. Good luck and get to calling :)

I agree call your Dr. I do this and I have ms but after being sent to electrophysilogist for the fainting I also am diagnosed with autonomic dysfunction which my neurologist says is secondary to ms but its not the norm. It's probably a benign thing but have it checked out and be sure ur drinking plenty of fluids.

I was hoping you'd tell me it was normal. So I wouldn't have to call the doctor. It's always a pain to get a hold of someone. Thought maybe I'd check here first before wasting mine and their time calling them.

Black outs or fainting mean blood is not getting to your brain it can be benign and it can be serious. This needs to be addressed ASAP at least with your GP.

This is not Normal - this should be reported to the doctor. This is NOT MS - this is a problem with your blood pressure and change of position.
This sounds to me like orthostatic hypotension, which occurs when you stand too quickly. It is a fairly benign problem but absoluely should be checked out by a doctor.
