Bleeding Ulcers and Taking Medications

Hi Everyone!!!  I have to ask this question because I don't remember anyone else asking this.  Ever since starting the steroids and naproxen, my stomach has been hurting like crazy.  I have an ulcer and I'm afraid that it is now a bleeding ulcer.  I am still unable to start the methotrexate, and now I feel like this thing is going to set it back even farther now.  Is it unreasonable to ask the Dr's for the i.v. administration of meds instead of the pills?

Love to All,

Ada

An update, I see a gastro Dr tommorrow.  Had a stern lecture about not eating and taking meds.  So everyone, please take medication as it is prescribed to you.  No one needs to have another problem like this.

Love to All,

Ada

Momma Quix, I had no idea it could do all that!!!!  Why don't the Dr's warn you of this?  I didn't notice the pain until I started the naproxen.  I am not going to take it again.  I am pretty sure its just the ulcer acting up.  But I have to be funny here, I wouldn't now a danger sign if it came and smacked me up side the head!!!  I did call my dr's answering service and hopefully he will call soon. Thank you Quix for giving me a physicians point of view of this matter.  I do appreciate it very much.

Zilla-It is good to hear from you.  How are you?  I feel like I've been away for ages.

Sending All My Love,

Ada

Hey, Ada, I want you to see a doctor ASAP.  Steroids alone can cause gastric hemorrhaging, without any underlying ulcers or problems.

The naproxen can cause gastric bleeding and ulcers.

Do not start the methotrexate until this is evaluated!

If you are feeling more fatigued, or weak, or are dizzy when you stand up, then you are to go tthe ER  NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If when you stand up your heart beats harder and faster then go to the ER!!!!

If your gums and the underside of your tongue is paler than usual (most sensitive place to see paleness) Go to the ER!!!!

If your stools have been black, sticky or tarry then go to the ER immediately!!!!!!!

Ada, I am very worried about the combination of things you are telling us.  Steroids + naproxen + knowing you have an ulcer + increasing pain in your stomach = a possibly serious situation.  It's not something to wait on if you have any of the danger signs, because a sudden hemorrhage from the stomach can be fatal.

Do you hear me, Kiddo?  You need a blood count as soon as possible.  If any of the things I mentioned early are happening you get checked today!

Quix
