Blood lab Results QUIX ?

Hi Everyone

Just a quickie on some blood work I had done a little while ago, there are a few flags on it and wondered what the high and low results meant, Everything else was marked as within normal

Hamatocrit 44.8  HIGH    % 34.0 - 44.0
Creatinine,  Serum 1.03  HIGH     mg/dl    0.57 - 1.00
eGFR   56   LOW mL/Min/1.73   > 59
Sodium Serum 149. HIGH  mmol/L  135-145
Chloride, Serum 111 HIGH mmol/L 97-108

Would really appreciate it, as the doc did not seem concerned at all by the results, said everything was fine, this is basically just to ease my own mind,

Thanks a million

Tyler

Hi Again

I see my Neurologist on  Thursday at 3. 30pm, so will ask if he can repeat the tests,

The home nurse also thought it was rather odd that they had listed sodium as an allergy,

Will let you know what he says, I have to go practice my walking and stretching for the next 10 minutes, what a pain, lol

Thanks again for the answers

One cannot be alleric to sodium.  that is an error.

I would just have you request a new chem panel in 6 months or so.

Minor elevations are rarely any problem.  I'm not saying your doc is ignoring bad stuff.  Just that 5 being minimally out of whack makes me want to get it repeated at some point.

Hi Quix

I was told to drink plenty of water before the blood test, which I did,

Sometimes my urine is very strong deep yellow and other times it is like water, I do drink a lot of water, as here is AZ it is getting hot again so have to keep myself hydrated, though no matter how much I drink i am always thirsty, have had that since i was a child, but i do not appear to have Diabetics, (I think I spelled that wrong)

I am not sure if they did a BUN test, but on the report i have just looked and it says BUN  12 mg/dL  5 -26

Does not say High or low,

When i was back in Hospital, having the 5 day Solu-Medrol during the numerous blood tests they did, they found my Sodium was very high, and they had to put another IV up to lower it,
I did not know that's what it was for, and when the home nurse came out to make sure i was doing ok, with my walking, she asked me if i was allergic to anything, and i said Penicillin, and she told me that they have also listed Sodium under allergy,

what does that mean ??

I am not really worried by the results, I just wondered why the doc would have just ignored all the flags, and said everything was ok,

Is there anything i can be doing to help myself, to make my blood more healthier,

thanks again Quix

(((((((HUGS)

I agree that I am a little taken aback by 5 numbers which are off, but not by much.  In my opinion, very early (and thus mild) renal disease is a possibility.

The kidneys are responsible for keeping the electrolytes balanced and you seem to be retaining sodium and chloride.  The creatinine is just at the upper limit of normal.  Did they run a BUN?

Is there any chance you were dehydrated then or kind of keep yourself dehydrated?  Is your urine very pale like water or do it usually carry some deep color?

Right now, none of those findings alone is worth worrying about.  But, they should definitely be watched and repeated.  For the next repeat try to be hydrated enough that your urine is weak.

Hi there Tyler!  I'm not Quix, and I'm definitely not a doctor, but I just wanted to chime in... a couple times when I had a result come back slightly off (like, I think maybe I once had the same sodium reading as yours!), my doctor would say, hmmm, probably it's fine, let's run that test again.  When we ran it again, it was always fine.  I think sometimes something is just a little off.  I should add, though, that I've never had more than one result off at a time!  I'm not a doctor, so really I have no clue... but five "slightly" off readings in one blood draw seems a little strange.  Seems like your doctor could at least re-run the tests.  I don't know...  Sorry I can't be more helpful.  Good luck to you! :)
