Blurred Vision

Has anyone had problems with blurred vision when you get over heated?  I been having this issue for some time and I went to eye specialist and they said that there is nothing wrong with my eyes so that is good. He said that it is because of the MS and I am just wondering if there is anyone else that has or had this problem. Because my Neuro told me that he didn't know why I was having the blurred vision when getting over heated.

Hi Chrissy,

I have blurred vision fairly frequently.  I believe that it is one of the symptoms of MS.

As far as the heat, you have to be careful with that.  It can  be a dangerous thing to allow your body core to get too hot.  Heat can cause permanent damage for people with MS.

Chrissy,
I too get blurred vision when I get too hot. The eye doctor told me that the nerves can swell and then go down before you come in and they can only see the surface area so they can not see beyond that.

She said this is a neurological effect of the MS. Like Red said be careful of the heat. If you have to be out in it invest in a cooling vest they are great.

Thank you so much for the information it is just nice to know that there are others that have the same thing going on to. And thanks again about the cooling vest.

Hi Chrissy,

Heat sensitivity is one of the most common sx in MS, its called Uhthoff's. Many years ago, before MRI's they use to stick a possible MSer in a hot bath, if their sx got worse or showed themselves then they were dx with MS, they dont do that anymore thankfully!

ON (optic neuritis) is commonly exacerbated by over heating, hot days, showers, baths etc, if you google Uhthoff sign or look in the health pages (yellow icon, top right of your screen) you'll get the full technical explanation. I am a little surprised that your neuro didn't know this sign, makes me wonder what else he/she doesn't know.

Cheers......JJ
