Brain Lesions, Breast Lesions, Liver Lesion

by Cowgirl37, Feb 29, 2008 11:22PM
Hi Ya'll, I hope everyone is feeling good today.  I've been lurking around since Jan 08.  I have posted all of my symptoms previously.  Started with my vision in my left eye (still blurry).  Numbness, tingling, left foot drop, etc..all on left side.  Had brain MRI with and without contrast.  It showed 3 lesions on the right.

Diagnosis is still out on the MS, EEG/nerve tests found a pinched nerve behind my left knee (hence the left foot drop I guess).  VEP and SSEP have been normal.  I'm on my second neuro ophthalmologist.  My neuro is still ruling things out.

Then I found "a" breast lump.  It has snowballed from there (2 weeks ago).  My regular Doctor did an ultrasound of both breasts at his office and found 2 lumps in each breast (probably fibroadenomas) and sent me to have a diagnostic Mammo, Ultrasound and MRI this week.  I had a surgical lumpectomy 4 years ago that was benign.

Got the results today and that is why I'm posting these questions about my initial brain lesions.  The MRI of my breasts showed something on my liver...rounded focus of increased signal on the T2 images in the left upper quadrant in the 2 - 2.5 cm range on my Left Lobe of the LIVER.  I know...they were supposed to be looking at my breasts but somehow this lit up.  Anyway, he recommends an abdominal ultrasound for further evaluation on the liver lesion.  But, there are also alot more things going on than I knew.  New ultrasound showed Six nodules (6 mm to 9 mm) not 4 that the ultrasound from a week before had shown.  Also, on the Mammogram, they saw a cluster of micro calcifications in the right breast (need spot magnification), another area on my left one needs cone magnification also.  And last but not least my lymph node under the left arm needs to be biopsied now, because it lit up on the ultrasound and the others didn't.

Needless to say, I'm freaking out.  Do you think that the brain lesions might be linked to the liver lesion and breast lesions in some way?  Can they tell for sure what type of brain lesions they are if they are specifically looking for MS and not looking for breast cancer that might have spread?  My mom had breast cancer.  I have not felt good since December 07 and have dropped 15 pounds since then.

I'm scheduled to see the surgical oncologist on Monday (long wait) and I'm sure he'll set up all of the additional testing that's needed and I'll go from there.  I had them fax me all the results so I could stay informed, but now I kinda wish I hadn't because I'm worried sick and have to wait until Monday.  I'm wondering now if my limboland "possible MS" was actually all this going on inside me.

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.  I know I probably should be posting on the breast cancer forum, but I like you guys better :) and I don't know if it is breast cancer.
Thanks    (sorry this ended up being so long!)

Thank you so much for the encouragement.  The world seems smaller now that you posted back to me.  I'll think positive.  This is what my brain mri says:

"There are three foci of increased signal intensity in the cerebral hemispheres that are suspicious for but not diagnostic of demyelination without any abnormality in the brain stem or cerebellum.  One is a single focus of increased signal intensity in the white matter of the right frontal lobe.  There is increased signal in the white matter adjacent to the left frontal horn. and at the right atrium.  Multiple Sclerosis is suspect."

I had another brain MRI on a T3 (1 month later) that showed the same lesions.  Also had the C-spine on a T3 and there were no lesions there.(Yaaaaay)

It is just too much all at once to be thinking MS, MS, MS and then "wham" this.  I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.  I'll be the first one in line to get those additional tests and hopefully they all come back fine.  I will keep you all posted for sure.  Thanks again for being there.  I know it's very late!

Wow, you have so much going on.  God Bless you.

I hope that T-Lynn is right...that these lumps are benign.  We are here for you, to go through every step of the process with you.  You have alot of tests coming up.  Think positively, until you are told to think otherwise.  That's the only thing you can do.

Please keep us informed about the testing.  I really want to follow your progress.  I am sincerely concerned for you and offer you prayers.

Best Wishes,
Heather

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.  I was up at 3:30 a.m. writing to you all because I couldn't sleep.  Just trying to figure it all out.  I know I'm not a doctor (not even close) so I just need to leave it up to the experts.  The surgical oncologist I saw 4 years ago was really awesome and he specializes in breasts.  I know he'll be all over it.

I took something to help me sleep and I just got up 4:30 p.m. Saturday.  That was 12 hours that I didn't worry about it :)  In the meantime, my regular Doctor must have gotten copies of the reports too, because his office called me earlier and left a message (on a Saturday no less) and said for me to call him because I need another mammo.  I think I'll wait till Monday, after the other Doctor looks everything over.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm 45 years old and we have a 16 year old daughter and I haven't told her anything as of now.  I'll wait until I have more testing.  She worries a lot.  I told her I don't have MS, and that it was a pinched nerve.  I also have a husband (we've been married 25 years) that can't really handle hearing it all.  He's been really sweet, but he's not the type to sit down and discuss it.  We also have a 24 year old son who is out on his own.  SO.....there's a little about me.  And I will continue to share with all of you because I believe you really care.  Thanks again for everything.

Hugs to all of you too, you are a strong bunch and I'm so glad I found you.

Hi sweetie,  I'm very sorry this has all hit you at once.  I don't know if this helps any but my sister gets those lumps all the time.  They are fibro ? something or other.  She has had them in her breast, neck, and under her arms.  Because our mother and father died of cancer they always biopsy hers, but everything is always fine.

Anyway just wanted you to know that possibly yours is like that.  I know it would be dumb of me to say not to worry about it because I would be a basket case.  I do want you to know that we are here for you.  Let us hold your hand and pray with you.

I will add you to my church's prayer list tomorrow so you will get a lot of prayers said for you.  That will definitely help.

I'll be praying,
Carol

Hello Cowgirl:

Just when are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, someone turns it off.

I know you are going through rough waters, I just wanted to let you know that this previous year gave me a lot to worry about.

My neuro recommended that I had Head MRI and C pine also.  They all came out as usual, my MS has not gotten worst, but they neuroradiologist found something that he wanted follow, asap.

My neuro told me that because she was a doctor first, but she went to have a resident and fellowship to become a neurologist, so she sent me back to my pcp.  MY pcp requested an abdominal MRI and sure enough a small lesson was there, but nothing to worry about.  I had a mamogram (mammogram) after that, I showed something to be concerned.  I was sent to another doctor (train to do women issues) and she performed a biopsy of my right breast.  Once the results came back negative, we all scream and yelled in her ofice.

My story is long, but I just want to let you know that I have also been in place and that if you need something, we are just a message away.

Good luck with your next test and the Lord will guide your thoughts.

Keep us posted:)

I am so glad you shared this with us all!  You are very brave and this wait til Monday must be excruciating for you.

I had a abdominal ultrasound about 3-4 years ago and it showed a 5mm mass in my liver.  I was freaked out just like you and then after the MRI came back I found out it was a hemangioma - benign bloody tumor that usually causes no trouble.  I am telling you this because I know it is so hard to stay positive and try not to self diagnose.  I have faith that whatever happens you will be OK and that we will all be here to cheer just like in Gooddays story.

I will be praying for your to have some peace this weekend and a great doctor on Monday to help guide you through the next few diagnostic steps.

Big HUgs!!

I see that you are on here tonight and thought I would bump this up in case you might know something in regards to my specific question regarding lesions of the brain, breast and liver...Any thoughts?

Quote from original post:  "Do you think that the brain lesions might be linked to the liver lesion and breast lesions in some way?  Can they tell for sure what type of brain lesions they are if they are specifically looking for MS and not looking for breast cancer that might have spread?"

Thank you,

Hello.  I also thought of something.  craig had a cyst on his kidney show up and three lung nodules.  After more tests, they decided they did not need a biopsy.  Also, my mother had calcifications on her breast and it was negative..

So just wanted to give you some good thoughts!!!

We have a sixteen year old daughter too and she also worries alot.

I will keep praying for strength for you and good reports.

Thank you for all of your input.  I understand you all have huge issues yourselves that you are dealing with and I appreciate your time and experience with these types of things.  I'm hoping and praying that these are all incidental findings.  I mean they are looking very close at everything because of the possible MS and the lumps, so they are bound to find other things along the way.  I'm holding up pretty well, it's Sunday already :)  I will pray for all of you too.  Your comments have helped me stay grounded.  You ARE the best cyber family out there, no doubt.  I feel the hugs!  Will post tomorrow afternoon.

Good Luck tomorrow Cowgirl, and wanted to send you a welcome too.

It's so hard to keep the brain from going from one thing to the next when these things are going on.  I think you are handling this very well, especially, since what you write about the hubby, sounds like not a great communicator, or one who sits down, and helps you map out a plan, or at least talk about it.  This I understand well. Makes situations like these harder.

So, tomorrow it is.  I will pray you have some positive news, or at least some further scheduled action so you can knock some things off your plate.  You hang in there the best you can, and know we are her pulling for you.
be well,
SL
