Breathing problems from long term IV steriods

Anyone had problems from long term IV steriods?

Dx in 93 b4 interferons, on & off IV steriods. Yrs took all interferons + Novantrone (chemo) + IV steriods for exacerbations.  On regular IV steriods 500mg @ 4-6 weeks x 3 yrs!

Now worsening SOB, dry cough, vertigo, dizziness (+ other reg. MS symptoms). Starting to get real scared as went from walking with braces to my wheelchair (I do fall) in 2 months.  CT Scan of lungs positive for bilateral scarring + COPD which I have no idea how I would get as I don't smoke, etc.

Anyone on long term steroids please respond. Thanks..

Sorry you are having a hard time.
I have not heard of long term steroids causing breathing problems.  Steriods are used for long-term management of severe asthma.
Maybe there is something else going on.
Any feedback from your doctors?

You do not have to be a smoker to be diagnosed with COPD.  The "bilateral scarrring," whatever the cause, is why you now have COPD.

When my mother was diagnosed with COPD, she was given steriods to HELP her breathe more easily.  I am not a doctor, but I feel that your COPD is NOT from the steriods.

Your questions about COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) deserves a call to your doctor for a further explanation.  Not knowing what is causing it, puts too much stress on you; which you don't need right now.

I wish there was more that I could tell you.  Perhaps Quix can chime in and offer some more advice.  I will include you in my prayers.  Keep the chin up and remember that we are all here for you.
