Bruising

Are bruises on your legs common when you have MS?  My legs are covered in bruises!

I am experiencing the same thing but on my arms ..I will wake up and there another bruise on my arm

Check for erythema nodosym (sp?). I have had bruises for months on the legs only. My neuro referred me to dermatology. I thought he was crazy. Turns out that if it's skin related, the dermatologist can take a quick look and say what it is. I was amazed. I was told to stop all meds, especially multi vitamins and vitamin D. If the spits go away, slowly introduce a medicine or vitamin one at a time. If the spits return you will know the source of the problem.

While sleeping could you have possibly put your hands in between your legs and squeeze your legs? I know that with the fatigue of MS, when you sleep, sometimes you sleep tight. Me, for example, I am being possibly diagnosed with MS, just going on one more test, everything indicates that I do have it. Anyways, when I sleep and not notice, I either squeeze my cheeks, or my arm, or not thinking that I am hurting myself. I do not believe it is neurological though.

Hi,Since MS is Neurological bruising is not a part of MS except clumsiness. My dogs bump me a put bruises on me in weird places. Not everything that happens to us is MS. If you are concerned a General Practitioner may be of help.It might be from some other medical problem?

I understand why doctors say the bruising is from clumsiness. But I also have bruising on my inner thighs, kinda hard to bump into something right there. Just from yesterday I have 5 new bruises and I DID NOT bump into anything. There must b another explanation.  

And my whole life I have never bruised easy

Spontaneous excessive bruising can be a symptom of bleeding disorders.  ITP - Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia - comes to mind.  It's an autoimmune disorder which causes low platelet count and is treated with oral steroids.  I would ask your GP to order labs to rule out this and other, more serious bleeding disorders.

hmmm... a quick google search showed some comments about bruising and MS but not direct correlation.  I thought it would be common because MS is an autoimmune disease and bruising can go with autoimmune diseases.  Still, I'll double check with the Dr. and see what she says!

Hello.

I noticed my legs bruising a lot as well, but then I kind of rush to my destination and may be bumping into things but not remember it.  I did ask my doctor if MS or my medication could be having this effect.  He stated MS did not cause the bruises, that MS was neurological.

I am clumsy but I always have been.  I'm a bit concerned as between the two legs (including the backs) I must have 30 or more bruises!  I will mention it to my neurologist when I see her in February.  Jujuminx - I will let you know what she says.

Funny you should ask that question as I have noticed recently a lot of brusing on my legs.

I am not overly clumsy so cannot say for sure the cause or if MS related but don't think so.

MS is a Neurological disease so bruising is not caused by MS. But clumsiness comes with MS as has been said.

I think bumping into things is common when you have MS. But it's also common when you are a clumsy person. I am both, so I always have bruises on my legs. In fact, I got a nice new shiner this morning on my left thigh :/
