I'm just figuring this out, so I must be a slow learner. But ultimately I do get it.
During almost all of January I had a very bad allergy attack which made me almost dysfunctional at times. I was treated with a barrage of meds, including a 6-day taper of oral prednisolone. That took almost a week to work, and I finally got better.
Next thing was a severe flu-like attack that at first I thought was a delayed reaction to Avonex. That, I learned here, is most unlikely, so the timing must have been coincidental, and I had gotten a virus of some sort. I hardly ever get virus bugs, and in any case I had had a flu shot
A few days after the worst of those symptoms had subsided, I started into a brief flare or pseudo-exacerbation of MS. Extremely bad pain in lower spine and legs, leading me to even take vicodin, not something I want to do.
I'm only now connecting the dots and concluding that the allergies lead me to take the steroid, the steroid most likely left me open to the virus, and the virus caused the flare. And for several days now, off and on, I'm having more vertigo. Have had 2 bouts of that previously.
The bottom line is that I'd better not take more steroids. A rock and a hard place, since when my allergies act up I'm a mess. And to make matters worse, I'm starting into another allergy attack. In a couple of weeks I have to be seen by allergy clinic doctors (referred by my ENT), and have to be off all antihistamines and maybe other stuff for at least a week beforehand. What a revoltin' development!
