Daily Migraines

Happy Monday, Forum!

I am back to say Hello and to complain some more!

I have been having migraine headaches each day for over a week. Grrr! They had been mild to moderate -- just enough to keep me cranky, but not enough to call in sick to work. Thank goodness I work part-time, or I wouldn't have made it through the last week.

Even though my current neuro has come to the final diagnosis of "complex migraine," he agreed that I should go off of Topamax, my daily migraine preventive medication, because I don't get that many migraines, and I hate taking too many pills.

Those of you who know me know I have had my fill of docs and this past week I have not called for help, just took my Excerdrin Migraine and slept the week away, hoping the headaches would stop. Well, this weekend was awful. My eye hurts so bad and it goes right down to my cheek and I swear my skull is sore and tender from all the pain. I have been nauseous and threw up on the way to church on Sunday--couldn't take Communion because I knew it wouldn't stay down....

I called my neuro's office this morning. I hope there is something he can do. I am scheduled to work this afternoon. I will be able to work with no problem. I am just tired of the pain. That's all.  Just tired and had to tell somebody.

Take care and feel well,

Momzilla*

Hey, doll! I think I owe you several long catch-up PMs. Will do.

I'm so sorry you continue in this misery. Whether you have complex migraines or beri-beri, your neuro should be helping you with the pain. My sister does a whole lot of Imitrex injections, but they make the difference between functioning and not. Have you tried this?

Imitrex pills are okay if she doses up at the first sign. Injections are faster. I've tried it and it works.

Sending comforting hugs,

Hi!

So good to hear from you! Do send me a PM! I need to know how you are!

I just heard from Elizabeth, my doc's medical assistant. He's prescribed the Topamax again and Maxalt, which I believe is the same type of drug as Imitrex. I also asked for some compazine for nausea, which I'm sure he'll give me.

I really am doing well in between headaches and all and hope you are, too. Two of my boys were in that earthquake in Mexico a couple of weeks ago, and we couldn't get word for a while about how they were. Of course they were fine and thought it was the coolest thing that could have happened!! I almost think that stress triggered my headaches....

Thanks for the hugs! Sending you some "Miss you!" hugs back!

Hi Mama-Z!

So, you are not going in to be seen? :( I sure wish you would, though I'm doubtful I would either after all of this.

AAAh, no doubt the worry threw you into full blown attack. I'm sorry.

Nice for you to pop in! We miss you very much,

hi,
I too suffer from almost daily migraines. It is awful.

Someone just told me to add 500 mg of magnesium daily.

I started....but don't know if it will help or not. The person that told me, had migraines for 30 years and the magnesium helped her.

I thought what would it hurt to try? Wish I could tell you more.

God Bless

Sorry to hear of your ongoing migraines . As a sufferer of long term migraines, I can certainly empathize with you. As for the nausea meds, my neuro and PCP both switched my nausea med to Zofran which works very well and helps to get my lunch down without side effects.

I cannot tolerate the triptans for migraine relief . I use good old-fashioned Fioricet (no codeine) and it works well for me along with a Zofran.

Sending feel better wishes,

Ren

Hey Mo,
My DIL has just been dxd for migraines and the docs are giving her a muscle relaxer with the migraine med.  They thought the combo would help and it certainly has.

Good to see you popping through here - take care and don't be a stranger. We all miss seeing you here.

be well, Lu

Hey, Jersey Girl!!

It's so good to see you on Facebook! I love getting to see you there and have missed you!

I really am done with my neurologist, I keep telling myself...that is, until I NEED him!  No, I didn't really need to go in to see him for refills, essentially of medications I have taken before. And he has never had the time of day for me, as I remember. So, I am happy getting the medicine called in by sweet Elizabeth and not having to subject myself to any more neuro exams. We've all had enough of those!!

I hope your run went well, and I'm so proud of the great fnd-raising job you did!! Go, girl!!

Peace,

Zil*

Hi! Nice to hear from you! I hope you're feeling well, despite the migraines. (Idiotic thing to say, I know, now that I've said it!!!)

I don't normally get migraines like this. I had them one summer for weeks each morning where I'd wake very early with a throbbing migraine and awful vertigo and a strong urge to vomit. Because of the vertigo, I couldn't walk straight, and I'd knock my way into the wall to the bathroom about a dozen times before I made it just in time to throw up. Ah, good times!!

Since then I've just had an occasional migraine or aura here and there (I did start on Topamax in the meantime, too) and had never even had a migraine before I was 41.  So, I know this will pass. I can tolerate it pretty well, actually. I suppose I just like to whine!!!

Now, YOU! Do you think your migraines are managed well? I'm sure you're on a preventive aside from the magnesium (thanks for the advice!). Does it work well for you? And how about an abortive medication? Is it effective?  I hope so.

Yes, Zofran is a good drug. I wish I'd asked for it instead of the compazine which can make me drowsy. It's the last anti-nausea drug I was prescribed, and still, after all this time, after all these docs, I have to learn to not just flow with the status quo. I should have had a thought for myself!! I'll try again next time!

Feel well and let me know how you are.

Hi! I'm sorry, but I got your post a bit mixed up with daisy girl's. Sorry!

Nice to get a message from you!

You had the tip about Zofran. Good one. (Please see feeble reply above!!)

I'm sorry you have trouble with migraines, as well. They are NO fun and really quite miserable.  So, you don't take triptans. It's funny, but because of the diagnosis of 'complex migraines,' my neuro did not want me to take triptans. It can be dangerous somehow for people w those mysterious "compicated migraines" to take triptans which are vasoconstrictors....forget the reasoning.

But, apparently he doesn't much care anymore. Or he'd like me to ....go away!  Tee Hee!  I don't actually like how the triptans make me feel. My neck gets all tight and hurts, but the headache does seem to get better. Fiorecet helps my son, 17. I hate codeine. It makes me nauseous! I didn't know Fiorecet didn't have it... More good info! Thanks!

I really am just waiting for the Topamax to start working. I trust it will.  Do you take a preventive? Is it effective? There are so many good drugs out now; I hope one is working for you.

Take care and let me know how you are doing!

Hi, Lulu!

It's good to see you on Facebook, too!

I'm sorry to hear your DIL has migraines, but am happy the medicine combination is working for her. I take Zanaflex, a muscle relaxer, or I wouldn't be able to sleep with my leg pain, which has gotten to be troublesome.

I think it helps, too, because I believe my headaches are not just simple migraines (as if there is such a thing!!), but a complex sort of migraine/tension (thank you, earthquake!) or migraine/sinus pressure or a combination of the three. Certainly one triggers the other which can trigger yet another, or so it seems with me. (I just can't get that word "complex" out of my world!  Like everyone!)

Thanks for the note. I was glad to see your MS walk went well!! Go, Lulu!!

Feel well,

Momzilla*

I MEANT to say I hope your WALK went well -- not run!  It's just that you get me so excited and you're so energetic, that I picture you running, not walking!! Goofy me!

Good job, Shell!

Hi Zilla,

Despite the daily migraines, I hope you and your family are doing well. I'm on topamax too, mostly for the benefit of anti-seizure prevention, rather than the anti-migraine part, but some of my doctors still argue over whether I suffer from migraines or not. I don't consider myself a migraine sufferer either, since I've only felt maybe, 3-5 in my lifetime...Who knows..

Anyways, I hope your doctors figure this all out. Are you having any droopiness with these episodes, or are they just migraines? I'm glad to see you post..We miss you :)

Take Care

Hey - I did try to run! lol, but it was more like a two-foot scuff. My baby boy was running behind me once, I heard his footsteps, so showing off, I kicked it up a notch, ha/ah was funny.

Nice to see you and your fam too and keep up in that manner.

Hi, slightly-- Good to hear from you! I miss you, too!

One of my eegs showed I was having seizures every 5 minutes or so (absence seizures, mostly seen in children) even in a 24 hour study. So, I was put on a seizure preventive dose (400mg I think) but I swore to my docs I was not having absence seizures.

One neuro eventually took me off such a big dose, and now it's just for migraine prevention. I do not get any of my other weird neuro symptoms when I get migraines except for vertigo. When I get facial drooping, weakness and all the rest, it is decidedly when I am headache free. Even when I have been off Topamax.

I hope you are doing well, SB. Keep in touch. Take care and feel well!

Peace,

Zilla*

Shell -- Very funny!  Keep on keepin' on, as Ess says....
