Diagnosing MS

Hi my name is Vickie I have been in pain for almost 4 yrs now..I went to many drs who said I have Fibromyalgia. Then things got worse I have many things that made me believe that I have MS such as lower body pain, hard jerking at night, having trouble swollowing, sharp pain behind right eye and many other things. I had an MRI that shows no lesions and now am having a spinal MRI and an Evoked Response Test. I was told by a person who has MS that she showed nothing on any of the test but with all the things she had they diagnosed it any ways. I also read that 5 to 7 percent of people with MS come up negative on the tests? Is this true? I dont want them to overlook my symptoms if the tests come out negative. I have waited for 4 yrs for someone to help me and I dont want them to pass me on if they all come back negative. thanks for ur help.

Hi Vickie,
Welcome to our MS forum here at MedHelp - I can't urge you strongly enough to take some time to read our health pages (yellow icon, upper right side of this page).  These have been written in easy to understand language by our own members.  There is an especially good one about MS mimics - it will give you the names and symptoms of many of these too.

I hope you will stick around and learn more about MS - and ask your questions too.

be well,
Lulu

Vickie,
Sounds like you have been through a lot. If all the tests come up negative it will be harder to get a diagnosis. I take it you are seeing a neurologist? It is not just these tests but the neurological exam and the neurologists experience. There are many neurological disorders and thirty mimics to MS.

You hang in there,
Alex
