Thanks for posting the info. I'm sure many of us will find it helpful.

I'm just finishing up a Medical Office Assistant course. One of my favorite classes was the medical coding.

By the way, my Internists always lists the code for MS on my encounter form. I don't know if his "diagnosis" is official or not. He does feel I have MS (or something similar).
I've often wondered if having this code submitted to my insurance will affect me in any way in the future. ?? I already have health and life insurance, so maybe not.

Thanks again.

The diagnosis codes my neurologist puts down are what he suspects I might have.  The list of codes is getting smaller with time, so I don't delieve those codes are written in stone as an actual diagnosis, but that is just my own assumption.

Does your doctor put more than one code?

No, that's the only code he puts down. I do know that sometimes they put the possible dx codes down when they are ordering tests so they will be covered by the insurance, but so far this doctor hasn't done any tests.

He did say he felt as though most people could understand a little bit about what MS is, and that having the dx could help with my SSDI claim. I'm not sure if that's true or not though. Anyway, I get his point about being able to say "yes I do have MS" rather than they don't know what is wrong with me.

Sorry for the rambling, I don't want to get too far away from the original intent of this thread, so I'll stop now.
