Does Nuvigil Help You?

Hello.  I've known for 2 years that I have MS but just decided to join this forum.  It looks like a great place to be.  I am wondering, does anyone else with MS take Nuvigil?  If so, how do you like it?  Does it work for you?  I'd like to know the pro's and cons if you don't mind.

Thanx!

I have taken both Provigil and Nuvigil.  The neuro that treats my sleep apnea prescribed Provigil for me several years ago before I was diagnosed with MS.  They are expensive meds but do more than any other drug I take to noticably improve my daily life.  I'd give up many other things to continue to afford either one.

Neither drug gets rid of my fatigue or boosts my energy (wish they did).  What they do is help to keep me awake and alert during the day.  Lately I've been using Nuvigil more often, especially on work days.  I work afternoon shift so need to be stay awake later in the day and alert to drive home at midnight or after.  The Nuvigil seems to stay effective longer than the Provigil.

This isn't the kind of drug that will cause your eyes to pop open when it starts working.  It does it's magic quietly for me even at higher doses.  It has kept me awake if I take it too late in the morning though.

I have not noticed general nervousness or excitement except on rare occasions.  I have to think it was caused by some combination of the drug and some other influence (like caffeine or cold medicine).

Any specific questions?

I took it as needed for a couple of months.  I really liked it.  I had to stop because I was trying to get pregnant. I have heart palpitations and am very sensitive to medication, but this med rarely aggravated me and if it did increase my palpitations it was less of an effect than caffeine. When I first started it, I was having a hard time falling asleep at night, but I still felt rested in the morning. The more consistently I took it, the less sides effects I felt. I know some people on here were saying they had to take it before noon or they had trouble sleeping. For me, my cutoff was 8am, otherwise I couldn't get as much sleep as I wanted. My body still limited what I could do (My muscles would get tired), but the overall fatigue was much more workable.  I called them my magic pills.

I know Dr. Quix, our den mother here, takes Provigil, the predecessor.  Or at least I think she does.  Or did.

I don't but others here have tried this new form.

We haven't met yet - so let me say welcome and I'm glad you're here.

be well, Lulu

Welcome to the forum!  I don't take Nuvigil, but stick around - I'm sure somebody around here does.
