Does anybody have issues with their sense of smell

Does anybody have issues with their sense of smell

I am a 'limbolander' who is on the diagnosis journey and was recently prescribed gabapentin, which has helped a lot. (My PCP thinks I have MS, but the neuro said it was impossible for me to have it because I had a clean brain MRI.) Over the past several days, I've noticed that I either have a reduced or nonexistent sense of smell or, I  constantly smell "rotten eggs" periodically throughout the day. This "rotten egg" smell hits me in all sorts of places - the shower, my home, on the commuter train, at church, while I sit in my office at work, etc.  It actually makes me self conscious, because I wonder if it is ME who smells bad. :)  I'm a clean person who showers every day and wears clean clothes, so there is no logical reason to believe it is me, but I get self-conscious anyway.

In case anyone needs to know my other symptoms - right eye on/off blurry vision with occasional pain, body tremors, mostly on right side, fatigue, inability to concentrate, pins/needles in right leg/foot, right sided facial numbness and a really cold right hand. I actually wear a fingerless mitten while I work just to try and keep some warmth in that hand.

Anyway, the smell thing is a new experience and I'm just wondering if others have had similar issues.

Many thanks for your consideration. I hope everyone has a great week!

I used to have this phantom smell - weird rotten mildewed paper that had been set on fire...  Never could find the source of the smell, so I have to assume it was phantom.  And I'd smell it in all these weird places...

But smelling things that aren't there is just a sign of damage to the smell center, not necessarily MS damage.  I would definitely talk to the neurologist or PCP about it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had the "phantom smell" issue.  Isn't it strange how our phantom smells are always bad smells? Why can't they be of freshly baked cookies or something pleasant? LOL

Thanks again!

Quix says that the phantom smells are most often 'burning' or 'rotten' kinds of smells - apparently our brains have it in for us.
