Does anyone else have back pain with MS

I thought I posted this the other day but perhaps did not wait til the little circle stopped spinning on the computer.
I was wondering if anyone else ever has lower back pain with their MS symptoms.  Sometimes it is accompanied with a fogginess.......lidoderm patches help sometimes.

Today I went to my PCP for an xray of my neck thinking my pain in my shoulders and down my hands was disk related. She is convinced it is the MS. She did put these analgesic patches all over my back. My muscles were so tight even with the baclofen the patches made them really hurt like when I get massages. My muscles are so tense massages or acupuncture just hurt when my muscles start to let go. I am also taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen.

She wants me to do isometric exercises which I do do.

I have not been able to sleep or swallow in my sleep my upper back is so tense. I get vertigo from the tightness.

I hope you get the symptoms treated. You do not need a diagnosis to push for more help with symptoms. Feel better soon.

Yes, I have hideous back pain, I could write books about back pain.  I have it every day at different levels.  Then my other symptoms at different levels.  60mg Baclofen a day, Flexeril or Zanaflex on top when needed, Tramadol or Vicodin (never together) 1000mg Ibuprofen.  Then I don't move.

Sorry you are a fellow sufferer but you are in good company!

Hi Sarah,

I am sorry about your back pain.  I, too have lower back pain, but mine is not steady.  Sometimes I think it may be radiating from the almost constant pain I have in my hips.  I tried Lidoderm patches, but without success.  I now have Duragesic patches for pain, and that helps with most all the pain I have.  Motrin 800mg gives it a boost when the pain breaks through.

I hope you can get relief soon.  It kind of wears on you after a while, right?

I get serious back pain in my lumbar.  I have several lesions in my spine, which cause the MS hug, myoclonus in my legs, and the lumbar pain.  I also get spasms around my shoulders.

I recommend drugs for this one.  I've tried stretching and heat and massage, and they do help a little.  But nothing works as well as 60 mg of baclofen a day, and a flexaril when needed on top of that.

Hi Sarah,
I am not dx. still in limbo, but I have to answer,.... I have horrendous back pain. It is mostly in my lower back. I actually have my kids take turns sitting on my back so I can have a deep pressure massage LOL  in order for me to get moving.

I have also had the spasticity in my upper back right between the shoulder blades which stops me dead in my tracks, I cannot move from the position I was last in for couple of hours or more.

I take zanaflex for the spasticity, I beg my hubby for massages all of the time. LOL

Take Care,
Pam

Hi, Sarah-

I don't think I have ever talked to you before.  So, hi from CA!

I am sorry you are experiencing back pain. I am undx'ed but, I believe, getting closer to being dx.  I started having lower back pain after a really rough and long flare back in June, 2010.  My pcp said, for me, it was due to my center of gravity changing.  The flare put me in a wheelchair for over two months.  He set me up for physical therapy and it is helping some.  I am also on muscle relaxers.  I use heat in small intervals (I don't get alone too well with heat).  I also just started seeing a pain management specialist, too.
